New Prince Book Celebrates "A Life in Music"

Prince Rules in Print with First-Ever "Playlist History"

The life and achievements of the year’s hottest star are celebrated in a new book entitled Prince: A Life in Music. In this, the year of his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain and the season of his acclaimed comeback, Prince: A Life in Music takes a look at the artist’s amazing life and work through the lens of 50 of his songs. It is a first-ever “playlist history,” and each song title documents a chapter in his eventful career.

Prince: A Life in Music is available now at Amazon.com. (http://www.amazon.com/exe...ce&s=books)

An Excerpt from the Book’s Prologue

“Na na, na na, na na, na na, BAT-MAN!”

A young boy watched with riveted fixation. This was one of his favorite shows.

“To the Batmobile,” the Caped Crusader commanded. Like the battle cry of a holy warrior, his tone bespoke both the danger and the glory of his crusade. The funky, black roadster roared off, speeding away with the heart of the young boy, drawing the little viewer deeper and deeper into the fantasy of the Dark Knight. It carried him to another dimension, a dreamy, Technicolor vision not all that far from reality.

Here was the story of an ordinary human being who, with a change of his costume, could enter a world of comic-book wonders. In the ashes of a childhood cut short by hardship, he’d found a burning self-purpose and created his own super powers. He embraced the darkness as an ally and turned his tortured soul into an agent for good. Working night after night in his solitary cave, he would prevail of his own determination and drive.

The little boy padded across the room to the piano that his father had left behind. Poking deliberately at the keys, the boy’s fingers constructed a phrase: “Na na, na na, na na, na na, BAT-MAN!”
