What i miss the most about Prince's music:

is fusion.

ok yeah yeah i know what most of you are gonna say, but it's true. i like Musicology and all but all the songs are what they are: either a ballad, a rock track, a funk track and so forth. there's no mix up of styles in any one song.

TRC had lots of fusion and i think that's why i loved it so much plus it was a lyrical feast.

SOTT, PR and GB were great examples of Prince's ability to fuse different styles together and make it work. even Parade and Lovesexy had it. i wonder why he chooses to follow down this route with the new album and keep things safe?

You're damn right. TRC is really underrated here. It's his best work for ages, but just seems to be passing everyone by...

I hear you, Milty. Because Prince is pretty much a FUSION artist when you get right down to it. He's always transcended stylistic definitions. But at the same time I have no beef with music that fits neatly into one category as long as it's created with passion.

2 make $$$$ so he can release more xperimental & jazz stuff like this project he has with Blue Note. & maybe also 2 remember everyone he can STILL b a star whenever he wants but DON'T want 2 (lotsa people still think the contrary).

I was listening to '2 Nigs United 4 West Compton' earlier and thought the same thing Milty. Having said that, he was prone to sounding overproduced sometimes. Simplicity has it's place too.

Playing it safe isn't always a bad thing and some have mentioned TRC. It wasn't that long ago when it came out so one album where he sticks to one style in a song is not bad, especially when its a great song.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
