Prince & Chicago

i find it amazing that Prince can sell out 5 shows at a large stadium here in Chicago have Musicology stay in the top 10 at the tower records here (and other record stores) for 7 weeks YET the radio stations here act like he doesnt exist! aside from Cinnamon Girl getting airplay at Triple A radio station WXRT and about 9 spins a week for Call My Name at the Urban/Ac station WVAZ Prince gets NO airplay here..while many CHR/Rhyth stations play Call My Name B96 here has not played it or the Musicology single or any Prince song since 1991 for that matter and WGCI (Urban) who USED to support Prince big time will not play anything of his! Call My Name,,Musicology..nothing! but these will be the 1st stations when Prince comes to town to give away Prince tickets and act like Prince is the man! .....Chicago radio sucks and probably always will
Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

i HATE chicago radio.

the radio station they play at my job (i have no idea what it is - i think it's classic urban or something like that, some clear channel station i'm sure) will play the HELL outta "adore" and "do me, baby", but i've only heard the station play "musicology" ONCE and "call my name" ONCE since the album came out. rolleyes

yet they play that damn smokey "i need you now" song like 10 times in a two-hour period, like EVERY NIGHT. mad

it's kind of interesting to listen to clear channel, like from an educational perspective. left to my own devices, i'd rather gnaw off a limb than listen to a clear channel station, but being here at work and listening to the sheer ridiculousness that passes for "programming" on their stations, i'm reminded of why i maintain that particular limb-gnawing policy. it's really kind of amazing how they use hyper-repetition to drill songs and ads into people's brains...and how most folks DON'T EVEN NOTICE!!!

First they came for the Dixie Chicks... I didn't listen to the Dixie Chicks so I didn't speak up
Then they came for Bubba the Love Sponge... I didn't listen to Bubba so I didn't speak up
Then they came for Howard Stern....

there was a really amazing story on CC in Harper's Magazine a few months back. if you didn't read it, you really need to. i hope/wish it's online somewhere...i'll have a peek at the Harper's web site to see if it's up, but it's a really, REALLY disturbingly insightful look into the CC empire. if anyone's REALLY interested in reading it, i have the magazine and i'd be willing to make copies to mail out.

hey guys, commercial radio sucks WORLDWIDE. i never hear Prince on commercial radio here in Sydney, Australia either. I've only heard it on JJJ which is a government funded youth (20-somethings) station nation-wide, much like NPR except for (mainly) younger people.

The radio stations will play the ads for the shows, but they won't play his new music. I heard Call My Name for the first time on the radio here and nearly drove off the road. Hearing new Prince music on the radio should not be hazardous to your health. wink

I always loved "Sonic Boom" (electronic dance music) on Q101. And I understand it's now been expanded from four to six hours... wow.
