Would you like a classic Jazz Album

Hi,

I just wonder if I'm the only one who would like to get a Classic Jazz Album from Prince with a tracklist like:

  • Take Five
  • Cantaloupe Island
  • Everytime We Say Goodbye
  • Cheek to Cheek

etc. you get the idea.

I wouldn't mind...sounds like a cool idea. Anything by the man is good, that's why I have no worst song list:)

It seems 2 me that Prince is at his best when he's being creative and breaking new ground. Undeniably, he has the talent to tackle any of the classic jazz tracks that he chose to, but it would sound pretty much the same. Prince isn't great as a cover artist anyway. Example : Everyday is a Winding Road. Oh dear....

'Xenophobia' will B a Jazz album [of sorts] but I doubt very strongly that there'll B any covers on it.

Yes, I would love for LIL MAN to make a straight ahead jazz record as I'm a big jazz fan myself. It's what I listen to 90% of the time now,(not that smooth contemporary jazz stuff but real pure jazz), there's not too much going on in the other music genres.....give or take a few artists.

I think LIL MAN really would could add something to the jazz idiom, and it certainly would elevate his level of musicianship to a higher level and make him an even better instrumentalist.

Is there anywhere info available about the supposed to be new album "Xenophobia" except for the name thread here ?

What are your favourite "Jazz" tracks from Prince up to now ? Mine are "When the lights go down" and if you consider it as Jazz "Venus de Milo"

Best regards,
Jan

From Prince? A straight-ahead jazz trio setting?
I ain't convinced he coud do it. While I can't say what he does in his free time, Prince will have to wood shed to get his chops up. He's a good fusion-type player, but as far as carrying a band with his piano (totally out of the question on guitar; he ain't good enough!) and NO Synths???!!! Naw, he'll have to prove me wrong and come with stuff that ain't warmed over smooth-jazz crap.

Thank you for saying that this contemporary jazz stuff that's on the radio these days is NOT real pure jazz. I listen to a lot of jazz and when I tell people that, they say, "Me too", and then they list artists who do, basically, muzak or elevator music type jazz. That ain't REAL jazz. It ain't Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, etc... I would love to hear Prince do a pure jazz album. I think this (TRC) and Madhouse 8 are the closest we'll get to that, though. sad
