DOWNBEAT give TRC 2.5 stars Latest ish of DOWNBEAT gives Rainbow Children a begrudging 2.5 star review. I don't buy the mag much nowadays. I just browsed. Reviewer says he had to listen to it 6 times.
Copped brand new sets by my two favorite white boys on guitar: Pat Metheny and John Scofield. Both are VG and both are touring. test

Sounds about like me... I have 2 listen 2 most Prince albums about 6 times before I start to groove -- even SOTT and Purple Rain took multiple listens on my part.

oh and 2.5 * out of a possible??? TRC deserves a wider audience, it's one of P's most intensive works since...LoveSexy. Most dutch reviews I read were very positive, seems like us dutchies still love the little guy a lot "Time is a train, makes the future the past"

The Rainbow Children might not be perfect, but it is still a great listen. Family Name is utterly brilliant!!

Hmm...I am not sure, but isnt Downbeat a musician-oriented magazine?
If it was a commercial mag like Rolling Stone, I would understand, but TRC has more musicianship than most Prince albums. I rally didnt understand why the critic didnt like it...maybe it was because of the lyrics...

Not really Gustavo. It serves two markets. Musician and Layman. I don't dig the mag much because their main advertisers for CDs also get reviews published and it reeks of conflict of initerest. It's not much different from RS in that regard. test
