Your worst Prince Moment?

What is YOUR worst prince moment. I ask as a point of interest, not to create a thread with a negative vibe, but I read a lot of threads on here bigging up stuff that Prince does that is really lost on me. Be it a track, an album, or even a video he's done, its always interesting to read other Prince fans opinons and see how they differ with your own. I must admit that songs Ive initially hated, Ive come round to liking from reading others appreciation of them on these pages.

What in peoples opinon is their least favourite Prince moment. Ignore all the brilliant things, all the incredible highs of his career, where do you think he reached a lowpoint creatively?

For me it definitely has to be Emancipation. 3 discs of ok songs. Mediocraty had never applied to Prince so much as it did in 1996. I think for me it was the production on this album that sucked so much - that and the bulk of "so-so" songs on it (there were a few gems i concede). If he'd released The Slaughterhouse, I would have definitely said that was his lowpoint ( a truly dreadful prince album - unlistenable to my ears), however in the context of the hype and his new found creative freedom in '96, i would say Emancipation left me with an empty feeling.

This is easy for me;

It was going to the theater to see Graffiti Bridge expecting it to be Purple Rain 2.

When the credits rolled, I thought for sure that Prince had lost his mind. People were leaving the theater 20-30 mins into the movie.

I was not very proud of Prince at that moment.

Of course, I will be purchasing Graffiti Bridge on DVD in August! LOL

Peace

When he became a JW and started changing his lyrics to hit songs.
That is just not right. I always thought a song was an expression of how you're feeling at that specific time in your life.

I don't care what religion he follows, but I don't like him changing the lyrics. I know they are his songs and he can do whatever he likes with them, but IMO it's just wrong to do that. The Cross/The Christ WTF!!

worst thing ever: i guess the 3 chains o' gold video??! apart from the D&P tour 1992 didn't do it for me....ugly outfits, music overproduced and p really seemed to be drawned into his own world losing connection with other music and trends.

When people diss P without even trying to listen to the music. I blame P, though, due to his eccentricities. Changing his name led to some loss of credibility. I hated the so-called "dark years" of the mid-1990's.

The first Prince celebration.

Everyone had stories saying Prince spoke to them, smiled at them, or asked their name, etc.

Me, nothing. I never got to see him up close, take a picture, or smile at him -- despite hanging out at Paisley Park from the time it opened to the time it closed.

I was soooo unbelieveably sad.
I waited for hours in line outside the Park everyday and was so, so devasted to go home with no personal glimpse.

Most of the people met him at the nightly parties ... but i'm really not a party person ... so I never went to any of those....

They only time a got to see him at the first Celebration was at the concert. cry

I didn't go to the second celebration ... otherwise I'm sure I would have been in one of the listening parties/witnessing conferences where I could have spoken and pissed Prince off by saying I'm not a follower, and it's better to receive, and I'm an athiest .. and yada yada yada.

The worst for me was his aftershows where he played only a few of his own songs and then gave the stage to Larry G.

What a fucking waste of time and money.

My honest answer is the Lovesexy tour date I saw in Minneapolis. I was expecting greatness - Based on the reviews from the European press and the fact I was seeing a hometown show, I thought I was going to get the performance of a lifetime. Instead, I saw a rather flat, lethargic performance. The first half of the show in particular went over like a lead balloon. The second half was a marked improvement, but I still felt tremendously let down.

I'm afraid not - and it wasn't just me. I was part of a tour package, and all the people I travelled with expressed deep disappointment with the performance as well. These were people who had travelled over twelve hours in a cramped bus to see this show, and I can tell you that no one was satisfied with what they saw.

I have the Livesexy concert on vhs and a couple of audio bootlegs - I know that tour was often great, but I saw a very mediocre performance. It happens - no one is going to hit a homerun every night. Unfortunately I saw a bad gig. I've seen Prince twice since then, and I have no complaints about either of those shows - they were much better.

Yet another spelling edit.

whether or not it impressed me or not...he's not getting 25.00 from me.

I'll have to cosign with you.

I love his songs, but I hate it when he changes the lyrics or preaches.

One time, that really sits out in my mind, is when he sang the "Cross" and made that sermon regarding the word 'stauros' at the beginning of the song. I felt like I was being preached to.

I think a lot of Prince fans hate that because most of them are not JW's, but yes, this is my least favorite moment also.

Thanks. wink

how bad was it? what did Prince do?
