Prince, the modern day Elvis Presley? I have some reasons to back it up. But, anyone else have opinions on this first?

I really would have to know what your reason's are? I am a huge Elvis fan, and Prince is a very close Second. Kirk: "KHAAANNNN! KHAAANNNN!"

Elvis doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentance as Prince. Oops, I just did it myself!! Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

Mani...can you get me a peanut butter and purple banana sandwich...thankyouverymuch.
Let's see, Prince is a genius, a multi-talented musician and performer, a master of several styles of music, and an inspired songwriter (when he wants to be). Elvis was a bloated redneck who liked to wear scarves, rip off R and B (without giving a whole lot of credit), watch underage girls wrestle, and do enough drugs to kill a pack of elephants. There are some similarities: 1) Both make horrible movies. 2) Both like underage girls (well, Prince did back in the 90's at least...just listen to the Love Symbol album) 3) Both like to play Vegas 4) Both died (Elvis is 1977, Prince in 1993) All good things they say never last...

Well you speak the truth, BUT you forgot to mention that Elvis never wrote any of his songs also. That doesnt change the fact that he was, is, and always will be a huge influence to the wolrd of Music. I would never ever say Elvis was as talented as Prince, but he was a SUPER GREAT PERFORMER>.....and he like Popsicles Kirk: "KHAAANNNN! KHAAANNNN!"

I love them both - but to me they can't be compared because they are too different. Elvis opened the door for everyone that came after and his influence cannot be denied. Other 1950s artists were very influential as well - but Elvis had the whole package - the voice, the moves and drop dead gorgeous looks. Come to think of it - Prince has that too! As far as songs and musicianship of course Prince wins - hands down. But Elvis was The King - although I didn't learn to appreciate him and his influence until after he was gone.

Elvis had the voice, the looksand a whole lot of charisma.
Not much else... Prince has those too, and a whole lot more.... However, when you look at their popularity among the masses, Elvis has many more DEVOTED fans. Prince is argueably the most talented cat in music, ever. It's too bad that the masses aren't as endearing towards him. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I have seen Prince emulate Elvis. But I don't think he's a modern day Elvis.
Prince is his own thing. I have a hard time with the comparisons these days to Prince. I think he has surpassed many of his influences. I'm actually sick of the James Brown reference. Yes Prince has some JB sounding songs (like musicology) and even sorta copied from time to time the style...but prince has made that funky stuff into his own style. He goes beyond JB if you ask me. I actually hear more P-type stuff when I hear George Clinton and the Pfunk that I do when I hear JB. Just IMO. But noone mentions the George Clinton reference hardly at all. If anything I think he's more of a modern day George Clinton that ELvis. Christian Zombie Vampires

Yeah, I believe it! Prince DID steal music from the black ppl like Elvis did "The voter is less important than the man who provides money to the candidate," - Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens

Last night at the Staples center he started to sing "jailhouse rock". The crowd seemed like they wanted to hear him play the whole song. After about 15,20 seconds he stopped. then he said....."i like to do that" .....what a tease, but I LIKE IT

Prince likes to wear similar clothing.
He shakes his hips and dances similar to Elvis sometimes. Their both into pleasing audiences live. Elvis was, dead now... They were both controversial with their 1st albums. Elvis was only shown from the waist down live. Prince was opening for the Rolling Stones practically nude. Mostly edited early on. Elvis had a selected group to follow him around everywhere and give him advise on everything (couldn't think or act for himself as a star). Prince ain't no different yet. They both shook the world through using styles of others, although moreso Elvis. Prince used inspirations, Elvil re-recorded great black music and you could say called it his own. Both sex symbols (thats where the M.J. comparison fails along with many others...). Elvis had his home people visit. Prince has Paisley Park. And to end it on a definitive note. Delirious.

Other than the sex symbol bit and a certain yen for elaborate, sequinned costuming... no.
Uh-uh. No way, Josie. | |

Well... I've heard some say that Eminem is considered the modern day Elvis... I think because of the image of a white man performing "black music" - - which is debatable. Individually, I think Prince is a much more talented artist than Elvis, but Elvis was a pioneer and his music and performances literally broke new ground and paved the way for all who followed after. Hail to the King.... and the PRINCE VOTE....EARLY

the way the musicology shows are set up reminds me a lot of the elvis 1968 "comeback" concert, and prince had a string of "rockabilly" sounding songs for a while in the early '80s - "delirious", "horny toad", "jack u off", etc. i think there are some connecting threads here and there, thankyaVURRmuch.

Two responses from me....first to the asslicker who called Elvis a redneck....YOU BLOW DONKEYS....next to the asslicker who said Eminem has been called the modern day Elvis....BY WHO? A BUNCH OF 15 YEAR OLDS? If Eminem is todays Elvis, then the new kids on the block are todays JACKSON 5. And to all the jackasses out there who insist that Elvis stole music from black people.....SHUT UP!!!! No he didn't steal the music, the LATE GREAT SAM PHILLIPS gave Elvis the chance to sing these songs because no one else (black artists) could make them hits!!!! I saw a documentary recently where Ike Turner said the same thing to Sam Phillips (about Elvis stealing black music) and he almost got bitch-slapped by Sam.....Time to put these old lies to rest.
