I think I will be in the minority here but the symbol album is in
my top 4 Prince CD's ever.
The Rainbow Children on the other hand I feel is a over produced mess. Besides she loves me 4 me there isn't any songs with any good hooks.
I'd give the Symbol album 8 out of 10
and the Rainbow Children 2 out of 10

IMO,
The Rainbow Children is a unified, cohesive album.
is an uneven collection of great songs and o.k. songs.
It all depends on what you're in the mood for.

Gotta go with Symbol Album...7, And God Created Woman, Damn U, Love 2 the 9's, Blue Light...all classics. There is a good deal of crap ( I Wanna Melt With U, 3 Chains of Gold, The Morning Papers, The Flow, Arrogance) and the album doesn't work as a whole but overall one of my favorite.

Rainbow Children....boring, boring, boring, esoteric drivel. I have tried and tried and tried to get into it...I just don't think I will ever get there. If that makes me a heathen so be it but TRC was where I thought the man had lost it and would never get it back. Fortunately, I was wrong...

Niether are close to Princes best, but i'll take symbol anyday. Rainbow Childern is almost unlistenable. It has great musicianship and horrible songwriting. I'm sick or everyone saying how great John's drums are, the songs just aren't there!

the symbol album is better than good, but it doesnt even fit in the same category as the rainbow children.

I absolutely adore the album. I can repeatedly listen to it all the way through without skipping a single track. I like something about all of them, even The Flow is passable within the confinements of the tracklist. This is my fave.

TRC, on the other hand... I'm sorry but it's a mess. The production and musicianship is wonderful on TRC but the material itself is mostly weak, imo. Anything even remotely objectionable about Tony M on is immediately forgotten once the Darth Vader voice on TRC kicks in....

children. Although i loved at the time i find it really difficult to listen to now. In fact i listened to it last night, the first time in ages and i only really enjoyed Sweet Baby..the rest i found too noisy and it seems like there's too much going on. Not that i'm an expert or anything...

but RAINBOW CHILDREN for sure, it's just fantastic musically and then goes nuts and amazing at the end. she loves me, family name, everlasting now, last december!!!!
it has such poise

symbol isn't cohesive in the middle and too cocky. i do love 3 chains o' gold.
