Can anyone list some bass heavy Prince songs?

I'm just really starting to notice and appreciate how good a good bass part can sound.

Can anyone list some tracks where it is pretty prevelant, its a good part, and easy to pick out?

Mostly when I first started listening to Prince I only noticed or looked for the lead guitar work

and maybe the drums but lately have really started to appreciate the great horn work as well

as bass play so any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.

Also a big round of praise for the lovely orchestration of Clare Fischer.

You're talking about well-played bass guitar, not heavy prevelant bottom-end (be it from bass, synth, drums?)

About 5 mins into the extended version of

La la la Hee hee hee

there is a crazy bass solo, though the tone does not sound like your normal bass.

All of 1999 the album. Isn't it just bass/drum machine and guitar? Anyway the bass is all over it!

Peace also has a really good bassline I noticed the other day.

Love2Tha9s:

If U are trying 2 hear Prince's Basslines in his recordings, this may help...

Prince has changed his Bass sound and mix a few times over the years.

In the earlier days with the Fender Jazz Bass, he intentionally mixed it low in the mix. It was always tough 2 catch some of Prince's funkiest Bass lines 'cause of the mix. One of the only exceptions 2 this is D.M.S.R.

At a certain point (maybe '86-'87) he started using his Warwick Bass 2 record with. The Warwick Thumb Bass has a distinctive tone that naturally cuts through nearly any mix. Rhonda started using the Warwicks in the beginning, but now uses Fender, Lakland, etc.

Right around 'Emancipation', Prince started 2 up the Bass Guitar mix consideraby, and has done so every since in nearly every track.

Hope this helps.

Well, it's usually him...Let's Work/777-9311/D.M.S.R/Sexy Dancer/Head...that's all him.

He seemed to use more bandmembers in his studio work during the 90's though.

How about 'What's My Name?' from Crystal Ball. He's so happy with his bass on this he makes a point of it in the liner notes.

Also Days of Wild from Crystal Ball, 'oh, by the way, I play bass guitar!'

And Partyman - great bass and it is definately him since there's a clip of him laying the bass part down. Especially in the extended mix.

Most of Dirty Mind album, Let's Work, Private Joy, Do Me, Baby, All of 1999 album, some of Parade. "Anotherlover" is actually BrownMark slangin' and thumpin.
