Why are you comparing a high-quality soul ballad like Call My Name to one of the most ridiculous heavy metal bands of all time? Man, Manowar isn't shit compared to Prince.

He means manowar, the song on rave, not Manowar the heavy metal band.
Or are you just joking around?
I prefer Call my name.

I disliked MOW as soon as i heard it. It's bland and, for once, the voice layering does nothing for me at all. In fact, it pisses me off. neutral So Call my name, easy. Though that's not the best song on Musicology by a long, long way.

What a snobby response. If he likes Man 'O' War more than CMN, so be it.

That said, CMN for sure. I still really like MOW though.

I like Call My Name a lot. But I think I actually prefer Manowar- I think it was the guitar solo that puts Manowar on top for me. It's got that extra little punch.

I've been listening to Call My Name all weekend.
But MAN OF WAR is clearly better.

Here's why:

1. Storyline.

A girl he's loved for a long time (since they were sophomores) has left him, leaving behind broken promises and a 7-page letter. She thinks he cheated on her, but he didn't and because they keep having misunderstandings like this it's a waste of effort to continue explaining his love and faithfulness to her. He's so heartbroken he just wants to flee everything: the memories, echoes of what she said to him, even the very city they shared together. It's that intense. While the Call My Name storyline is nice, too -- about marriage being so fulfilling that just hearing his wife say his name electrifies him so much that he can't go even three hours without hearing it -- the Man of War storyline is fuller and more engaging.

2. Lyrics /mood.

Prince invokes the perfect mood of melancholy, hurt, and regret when he repeats phrases like "I need to get out of this city, i need to get you out of my head" and adds phrases like "I need to feel wanted again, I need to feel love is alive." But the clincher is when in the break down he says "I need to feel wanted again for a while. I need to feel no sin, hear me." It's such a sad plea ... to not feel sinful ... dirty.. He didn't sin... he perhaps shared some questionable intimacy with another girl (maybe just time and conversation, who knows) but he clearly didn't sleep with her because he says he couldn't put something inside another that he put inside the woman he loved.
Still, the lover's suspicion, accusation, and departure makes him feel sinful . .. and he's got to deal with that on top of the hurt. So moving.

3. Vocal delivery.

His singing is incredible on both songs. But there is more passionate variation in delivery on Man of War.

Oh, Man O' War, thumbs up!

Call My Name is nice, but it's not even in my top 6 songs on Musicology.
I prefer On The Couch to it.

music U know I'm not a Man O War, took the gold chain that I gave ya,
threw it down on the floor...music
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I like both...but why I got stumped on picking one, I have no clue...but if I had to pick one right now I would pick CMN. It's so 'classy' right down to the last drop, even more than 'Man O War'...
