Musicology is better than WHICH Prince albums?

Personally, I think it goes something like this. Musicology is a very good album, better than most of his stuff in fact, but not better than the greats like SOTT, Parade, Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, etc.

So in my opinion Musicology is better than the following:

Graffiti Bridge
For You
Prince
Kamasutra
NEWS
Xpectation
Controversy
Diamonds and Pearls
Chaos and Disorder
The Truth
New Power Soul
Rave In2/Un2 the Joy Fantastic
One Nite Alone (studio)

That's a lot of albums which aren't as good, so all in all I think Prince has done really well with this album and beaten a lot of his less inspired works.

So what albums do you put beneath Musicology?

.

Jughead and Push ruin it for me. Otherwise I like it, but Musicology is better.

No way, one his better albums; better than Musicology. Most people just sleep on this one cause it was a contractual obligation album and ignore the great music.

Xpectation
Diamonds and Pearls
The Truth
New Power Soul
Rave In2/Un2 the Joy Fantastic
RAINBOW CHILDREN

"Prince," "For You," and "Controversy" are all, IMO, significantly better than "Musicology." All the praise that TRC and TGE get should, IMO, be redirected toward the much stronger, although apparently forgotten, records "For You" and "Prince."

Totally agree with your list, Add to that Dirty Mind, Come, Rainbow Children, and Emancipation, possibly even the Gold Experience. I really think it's his best since SOTT. I do kinda like controversey, if it just had a few more good songs it would be better. Albums were so short then

i don't think i can compare Musicology to any other albums. its not the best, its not the worst but i just think it stands out for some reason.

I must rank it above anything he has put out since Lovesexy. Although it lacks 80's innovation, it has 80's consistancy. There aren't the frustrating highs and lows that marred most of his 90's albums. I don't have to skip over SILLY rap songs. I can just let it play. It's been a while since I could do that.

Its definatley better than everything that has come out since after the Gold Experience (but thats not hard to do, he released a lot of shit in those years). I need more time w/ it to see how it would compare to TGE and back.

It's better than every album he's put out since Emancipation.

Before that, it's also better than...

Grafitti Bridge
Diamonds & Pearls
Chaos & Disorder
prince
Come
Batman
For You

It's also about equal to Lovesexy for me, and inferior to the others.

Take Chaos and Disorder off of that list, add Lovesexy and Batman and I'll be in complete agreement with you.
