What is ur favorite Prince era?

With all of the best of and favorite Qs going around, I figured I'd add this 1.
Mines is the Revolution era. He had songs 2 cover all areas of life with different styles of music 2 match. It was also a time when he wrote a whole helluva lot of songs.

The PR era was cool, but for me it would be the SOTT era. I was 17 and all was good. I remember people walking in the halls saying, "Shut up already damn." Hearing "Adore" on the radio while it was still new was awesome. SOTT on vinyl is perfection.

I must agree with jbchavez...SOTT is the coup de grace with Parade/Under the Cherry Moon era a CLOSE second!

Of course! Between 85-88 he put on some amazing concerts and after parties. But obviously, his music was the fuckin bomb back then. One would have to be a friggin idiot to think anything he did in the 90's or now, could possibly top his shows back then.

I must say that SOTT was when I became a hardcore fan. I was about 16. The songs from '88 and '89 were great 2 and I feel that's because he still had a bit of Revolution in him. It's just that as a group and as a whole the Revolution era is it 4 me, no doubt.

I have to agree,
Sign O' The Times was my favourite period, but I also really liked the whole Gold experience / Come period.

Thinking about it they were both periods of intense & prolific songwriting, even by Prince's own standards.
With only a fraction of the material recorded making it to the (official) public domain.

My favorite era was the 1991-1992 era. I was 16 and just discovered Prince. I thought the D&P album was the bomb. Super funky. The followup, Three Chains of Gold was an even better album. How can you not respect SEXY MF? Or Prince's last real hit, 7? 7 was #1 on MTV's Countdown thing, I remember when we were watching MTV in class and 7 came on, people made "ewww" comments but you could tell everyone dug the song.

PLUS... you've got the wittiest pen the Twin Cities have ever seen... TONY M! Willing and able start this show right, with that type of hype, lay my card on the table tonight, my flow hit ya just like a lead pipe while i'm clockin! (the jizz!)

regards,
Lou

Right now ... I like the musical tour he's taking through life and am happy to take it with him.

It's quite rare nowadays for me to listen to his early stuff, although I'm always pleased to hear it if it's played on the radio. The only CD I really didn't like was Chaos and Disorder ... apart from that, I've liked most CDs as he's released them.

It's tough, but I have to say 1982-1983. I just LOVE the outtakes and 1999 is practically my favorite album of all time. Plus, he was managing The Time and Vanity as well! I have to admit that 1987-88 and 1993-94 are REALLY close though.

It's hard to pick a favorite because there is something to like in just about all of his different eras. Some people like particular eras because of the way he looked or dressed at that time, others choose their favorite based on the music created during a particular era.

If I was given the choice of only ONE era, based on his look and his music, I would pick Grafitti Bridge. The music and his look meshed together perfectly during the GB era.

"Thieves in the Temple" - look combined with his disposition in the vid for "Raspberry Beret" in which he's almost like the pied-piper. Also the whole Christopher Tracy UTCM-type
