Whats with 'Musicology' not being shown on mtv now?

With his first Commercial Album in years...not to mention a HIT Record, maintaining the #3 position for 3 weeks, now at #7, still in the Top 10...why isn't the video being shown on mtv, vh1 or bet now!

Usually when an album does well, the music video is being played all the time and songs from it are all over the radio, why is it that no video can be found on mtv now?

Whats happening?
Is there an e-mail address to mtv for complaints?

Hey, when I get home from work it's usually 7pm and I always put on music tv MTV). I've seen Musicology on 3 nights this week, plus once around 6:30 (when I get up for work). On BET, I've seen the interview with him and Sway one too many times for my taste, plus all the radio stations here in GA are playing not only Musicology, but all of his other stuff through the years. Go to: http://www.mtv.com/ and search the site for complaints. Hope that helps.

The song isn't on the radio at all. The primary reason the album is doing so well is the give-aways so the chart positions are a bit misleading. I think MTV and Vh1 both attempted to make it a hit but the audience didn't respond so they aren't playing it much anymore. Prince will probably never be cool with the kids that watch MTV so I'm sure they really won't respond to your complaint.

True. I'd say the vast majority (not everyone!) of P's fans are now 30 and over and don't really give a flying one about MTV anyway.

What did you expect? The song and video are boring, and no one cares for them. Of course the airplay will stop.

Okay, I'm losing my patience with this line of reasoning. By my calculations the album has sold 380,000 retail copies and about 150-175K concert. Notice the first number is significantly larger, i.e. primary. The album has been helped by concert giveaways but that does not change the fact that it has been a legitimate Top 10 for four weeks in a row. I am just sick of the thought that this album is not a hit in its own right without the concert sales. If someone told me that Prince would sell 200,000 of an album retail this year I would have severely doubted it. This album still has room to grow and, without a hit, will sell 500-600 K retail. With a hit, I would say 750K -1,000,000 is possible. The retail sales are not showing the massive declines that the man's albums have had in the past and the album is still Top 10 at Amazon, Borders, etc. Let's give the man some props...with or without the concert sales, the album is a hit.

Exactly! And consider this: Even if other artists in the top 10 were on tour and including CDs it wouldn't make as much of a difference. Especially with no other acts on the bill, there's no way Mario Winans, Gretchen Wilson, and even Usher could sell 70,000 concert tickets a week. Is it unfair those acts can't bring in that many fans to shows? No more fair than it is Prince can't get a single on radio. It all balances out.

GottaLetitgo,

Don't waste your time on this with Lovemachine. He posts this crap at least once a day, someone corrects him and then he says the same thing again in another discussion.

Like a few others, he obviously gets a kick out of winding folks up so no amount of "correcting" is going to make a difference. Expect to see the same post from Lovemachine in the next thread about the video, Billboard sales, airplay, whatever.

Peace, David

In order for the video and song to be a hit, you have to play it! DUH!!!

Kids are always looking for new things, and PRINCE is that to them!
I see tons of kids and teens at his concerts, plus...they like him better than Micheal Jackson!
Now-a-days!

um...whether the song and video is CRAP...it still is holding Top 10 on Billboards for a month!
I don't see ppl jumping up and down for that stupid song 'My band' or Hoobastank or Britney Spears...all these videos are played over and over again and they aren't the best of music either!
If you wanna say that about PRINCE!

POINT IS THE VIDEO SHOULD BE PLAYED ITS BEEN #3 FOR 3WEEKS! and its still selling well, considering MTV and RADIO is some area aren't supporting it!

If Paula Abdul came out with a song and album today, with enough play and support from mtv, it would be a massive hit!

and she can't sing!
but...thats my girl anyways!

Folks need to stop stressing over MTV not playing P's video. Norah Jones video doesn't get played on MTV and she still managed to sell. When Sade came out with there last cd, Lovers Rock, it was not showed on MTV and it still sold. I just don't understand why people expect for P's to be in heavy rotation. If it does then cool, if it doesn't, it's no big deal. MTV doesn't validate whether Musicology is good or not.

Not that I've been looking for it, but...

The guy in the office next to mine, usually has his radio on. At least twice, this week, I have walked by his office on the way to the men's room and I have heard the ending to the song. Both times, the DJ mentioned the concert and how he was just here a few weeks ago and about the new album in a short little blurb.

My son gets me up at about 7:30 every morning. My wife usually watches MTV at night, so when I turn the TV on, the Musicology video is always playing at 7:30 sharp like it's got its own official time slot or something.

It's been like that for a while now.

Side note:
Just the other evening, I was at a red light and the car next to me was blasting ICP&C. When I looked over, it was a rather young kid in his late teens/early 20's. This was actually a shock to me to see! Must have gotten something right with this album!

See that's simply not true. I probably have just as many positive things to say abotu Prince as I do negative. Seriously look back through my posts. What I said in this thread isn't even negative.

Here is what I said...

"The song isn't on the radio at all. The primary reason the album is doing so well is the give-aways so the chart positions are a bit misleading. I think MTV and Vh1 both attempted to make it a hit but the audience didn't respond so they aren't playing it much anymore. Prince will probably never be cool with the kids that watch MTV so I'm sure they really won't respond to your complaint."

Point 1 the song is not on the radio as it's chart position clearly shows.

Point 2 is true because in the last 3 weeks the album has jumped 3, 7, and 3 spots because of the give-aways so the chart position is indeed misleading.

Point 3 is an opinion but I do feel that both MTV and VH1 gave the video a lot of airplay early but it is slowing down PROBABLY due to the fact that the audience is not responding.

So livewire or sheep as I think of you tell me how this is negative? Why don't you "correct" me.

Okay, Lovemachine, how's this:

You said: "the song is not on the radio as it's chart position clearly shows."

"Musicology" is CURRENTLY in the top 10 on the Urban Adult Contemporary chart (www.radioandrecords.com/Charts/uac_Home.htm) based on strength of airplay alone. This is the only format that Sony really promoted the song to -- any other airplay was based on bleedthrough. Please tell me how "the song is not on the radio" when it's sitting on a top 10 chart as we speak?

You said: "In the last 3 weeks the album has jumped 3, 7, and 3 spots because of the give-aways so the chart position is indeed misleading."

FACT: I like how you conveniently changed your wording here. What you actually wrote was (verbatim) "The primary reason the album is doing so well is the give-aways..." First of all, it's lame that you changed the wording of your reply; and second of all, GTFOOHWTBS! "Musicology" has finished in the top 10 on the album chart EVERY week since its release based on sales alone. Venue sales have bumped the album up to be sure, but your pronouncement that they are the "primary" reason for its chart showing is asinine.

You said: Point 3 is an opinion but I do feel that both MTV and VH1 gave the video a lot of airplay early but it is slowing down PROBABLY due to the fact that the audience is not responding.

FACT: This is indeed an opinion and I have no problem with it. Think what you will.

You said: "So livewire or sheep as I think of you tell me how this is negative? Why don't you "correct" me."

FACT: Consider it done.

In closing, thanks for the orgnote you sent me claiming that I am a "sheep." You may want to note for future reference that the sound of that animal is generally written as "baa" and not "ba." Check this link (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=baa) for further details.

I didn't change the wording I cut and pasted my exact reply into my thread.

The pop chart is the only one that matters except for people who like to say "baa" (thanks by the way).

You didn't correct anything. You just spun it differently.

Yes, and then edited it from your second discussion point and conveniently failed to defend it. You can easily settle this now, though ... Are the giveaways the "primary" reason for the chart success of "Musicology" thus far?

This is tired as hell and even borderline racist. I guess non-crossover R&B hits are worthless since they don't make the pop charts, right? The single was pushed to a particular format; it had top 10 success at that format. Case closed. You're grasping at straws and everybody here sees it.

Here, since you obviously never quite understood the meaning of his word, I'll help.
Main Entry: no one
Function: pronoun
Date: before 12th century
: no person : NOBODY
Main Entry: [1]no·body
Pronunciation: 'nO-b&-dE, -"bä-dE
Function: pronoun
Date: 14th century
: no person : not anybody
Now, since I care for the song, even if you were not able to find one other person on earth who does (which is highly unlikely), a person is one more than none. Good luck sounding more intelligent next time. biggrin Good day. flip u

It could be because Prince did kinda take a jab at MTV in Rolling Stone by complaining that never play videos....which is true. So I don't know.....I know I rarely see it, but MTV can never get enough of "Roses". I swear they show that like 50 million times a day.
