I disagree. CMN is just right for radio. Yes, it’s formulaic and derivative but that’s the entire record for you. All these cats talking bout “Million Days” and “Cinnamon Girl” had me worried. Those two tracks are completely unsubstantial. CMN is just the kind radio friendly love song that I could see really taking off. Not my favorite song on the record but, aside from ICPC, the best track for radio. And "Dark" is a very good track, saying it's better than CMN is not really putting down CMN.

I think call my name/on the couch are the best pair of ballads on a prince album since Adore/Forever in my life

I think it is a good decision to release it as a single. CMN is the best Prince song I have heard in a long time.

Child!! "Call" is great, but when compared to "Adore" you're losing me there. "Adore" holds the first three spots on my top ten Prince ballads, followed by TB1's, INTLLVR, Do Me baby, Slow love, So blue, Call My Name and Damn U. Honorable mentions go to I hate U, Scandalous, Insatiable and Joy in Repetition. COOL!!! Cool!! nod

we're all going to be massively tired of this song by the end of summer, believe it. every person i played "musicology" for before the album came out commented on "call my name" as the best track on the album. i don't think much of the song myself - i like it, it's a good prince bedroom ballad - but it has "HIT" written all over it. i can totally see it.

I agree. This song, while not my favorite, well get the disc nominated for record of the year. I promise.

call my name was the only logical choice, at this point. And it's going to be pretty big, in my opinion. This is a track that radio will love. It's a little long, though. Or is there a radio edit?

I don't know what you are talking about. This song has been growing like wildfire across the country. Hell even here in Atlanta it is being played on a Hip Hop station of all things. I mean can you believe that. Despite how you feel about the song or the album. Prince is proving to be a much better marketer and manipulator of the music than you or I or anyone else on this site. I say just chill and let's see where it goes. I mean you can really say 'Musicology' the song bombed because it was never released as a single. I think looking at how well the album has been selling that song might have done well on the charts.

Yep, there is a radio edit that cuts out the verse with "stop the war etc" on it.

Apparently it is the next single. It's getting radio play and there is now a call for a video shoot. Maybe a million days or cinnamon girl will be released too.

He may just release a bunch off of this album. I think are just shocked to hear him on the radio again and don't want him to blow it by picking weak tracks off of the disk. Musicology is very radio friendly...almost all of the songs. And I can't see him NOT releasing ICP&C...but no threads have been started about that...at least not that I've seen.

Can't see it having much impact in the UK (if it's gonna be a single over here).

I don't think the media/gen. public (who singles are for) look to Prince for syrupy ballads.

this is by far my favorite track on the album. For me, it's because of the bass work in the song. It's so attentive and it has style drippin' off of it everywhere. It's also got that "ohhh....yeah" after the "makin' love inside" line. I can't remember who that reminds me of.

Is this just going to be an airplay single? If so it means zilch in the UK. The fact that he is filming a video is also kinda frustrating, because without a proper single release it will hardly get shown over here.

Although I quite like the song, I think there is a risk of an 'extreme cheese' factor in the video. I hope I'm wrong though.

Ah I think it's a great choice for next single. Romantic, easily accessible, great bass, sweet lyrics, a great chorus.

It's got something Musicology was totally devoid of as a song-a hook.

Besides, everyone I've talked to who've heard this album like Call My Name and ICPC the most, hands down.

As usual, the Americans are only looking at it from an American view.

Sure it will do well on the radio in a country where you split and categorise everything and RnB clogs up the charts.

But Prince is making a BIG mistake if he releases this globally. He needs a pop number to maintain the mainstream interest he is currently getting.

Call my name will sink in places like the UK, especially if it doesn't even get a proper release.

Not a good move if you want the album riding high as you embark on a world tour.
