Sheila E instead of Janet Jackson?

when Janet Jackson hit big in 1986 i must say i was a bit angry because i thought with stronger songs from Prince that Sheila E could have been a big star..here i saw Janet dancing around using Prince's moves.Sheila's moves all to the beat of the Minneapolis sound while Sheila E with arguably more talent than Janet & was going nowhere singing songs like KOO KOO! i always felt Sheila could have been the star Janet turned out to be

I agree completely! I love Sheila,I think she's remarkably talented but I was very disappointed in how her "pop" career turned out.In 1987,she released the strongest album of her career,an album filled with strong, potential hits. That album should have been her "Control".But look what happened...the wrong singles are released ("Koo Koo" instead of the brilliant "Faded Photographs"??) and she temporarily gives up her own career to play drums for Prince. On the one hand,I was thrilled to see her in Prince's band, but it was kinda like she was giving up on the best album of her career.

I heard Sheila's albums and no offence, but they are the tracks Prince thought were too crap 4 his own albums! That's not 2 say their bad though, but compared to Janet's "Control", cme on, u can't be serious!

"Control" sounded very fresh and new at the time! Jam and Lewis spent way more 'care' into her album then Prince did on Sheila's! Plus Sheia did not have image or attitude like Janet!

Prince should spend more time on his protege's and maybe a better constructed album would be made! Sheila's tracks were also not 'street' enough 4 that era!

Janets first 2 albums, before "Control" also did not do well and that was also because, like Sheila's albums, they were just nice, average pop with maybe a standout track or 2 (check Janets "Dont stand another chance")

Can't dance either, not as good looking either, doesn't have a very, very famous brother either, but fairness to Janet, her producers made a way better job then Prince did with Sheila!
Plus I always thought Sheila never tried hard enough promotion wise but that was proberly Prince's fault too!

I think I still have it, but in an old issue of Black Beat magazine around that time, she said that the reason she went to play drums in P's band is because she never wanted to be a singer or in the spotlight in the first place. It's was of P's advice that she did it.

She wanted people to see her as a musician again, instead of one of P's tarts that he discovered. People forgot that she was a musician long before she met P. She stated if it meant not having a hit record/album, so be it.

what i was saying was if Prince paid more attention to Sheila's solo career he could have givin her some kick ass songs and she could have had a much bigger solo career..i mean why not give her Sugar Walls or Manic Monday smile and i think Sheila is way better looking than Janet btw

You're right, there is no comparison, because Janet sucks ass.

Sheila E. could entertain me with just a set of bongos. Janet has no real talent. She can't sing. What? She can dance? So can the 40 dancers that surround her at her concerts.
