What Prince songs do you like from other CDs, LA? maybe we can judge your taste from that and make a recommendation?

ndigo, good question, check my recent post "ultimate prince collection" where i've posted my best of. I'm trying to include something from emancipation, but it seems forced, there's just so many better prince songs in my opinion that aren't on there. Even the few that seem ok, are just that, ok. but i'm open minded, convince me!

I agree witcha...for three CDs of music, it's definitely lacking in standouts. CLosest for me is "One Kiss At a Time" or "Eye Can't Make U Love Me"

Wow, the self proclaimed "official hater" (who's here all the time I may add) likes some of emancipation but thinks musicology sucks? I'll take musicology over emancipation any day!

Overall I agree with this

But two that go together better as a single might be:

Jam of the Year
In this Bed I Scream

or maybe:

Sleep Around
Savior

or:

White Mansion
My Computer

Surprised people picked Right Back Here in my Arms
I always thought this was not worthy of being track 2.
It's kind of funky, but almost a non-song.
When I heard it I knew Emancipation would not be what I hoped.

oh ...is that so? my ex left me and took disc two and three with her....so i've only got disc one

- i've never been to bother to ask for it back
- nor was i bothered enough to buy it again

but maybe that's just on the basis of having disc one.... neutral
I feel pretty, that's enough

I think these are the best songs off of emancipation and make for a good compilation of the 3 cd's.

In this bed I scream
The human body
One kiss at a time
Soul sanctuary
Emale
Curious child
Dreamin about U
Joint 2 joint
The holy river
My computer
Sleep around edit (at 4:37 cut to last 7 seconds of song)
Somebody's somebody
The love we make

These 3 cd's have always been difficult for me to create a compilation for because I grow tired of some of the songs like slave, new world, ICMULM, FLSMW and right back here in my arms which are all great in small doses.

As for the best 2 I would personally pick

Soul sanctuary

and

In this bed I scream

I hate to say it but I really dislike "Emancipation" immensely. Only two songs stood out for me from the drivel that made up the whole set:

"The Holy River"
- Just a classic Prince song with a great sound;

"Slave"
- The only song on the whole set to make me prick up my ears and really listen. I love his more minimal stuff ("SOTT", "Alphabet Street", "Bob George", "Kiss"...) and the fact that this was really just a drum machine and his multi-tracked vocals had me staring at the player and saying "wow."

To this day those are the only two tracks on that set which I can listen to. The rest really isn't worthy in my opinion.

My 2 picks are:

1. Soul Sactuary
2. Friend, lover, sister, mother, wife.

2 really great tracks. biggrin

This is difficult, seeing how lousy Emancipation is...

The only songs I love are:

-Right Back Here In My Arms
-Somebody's Somebody
-White Mansion
-Damned If Eye Do
-In This Bed I Scream
-Sex In The Summer
-One Kiss At A Time
-Soul Sanctuary
-Emale
-Curious Child
-Dreamin' About U
-Joint 2 Joint
-The Holy River
-Let's Have A Baby
-Saviour
-Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife
-Slave
-New World
-The Human Body
-Face Down
-Style
-Sleep Around
-Da, Da, Da
-My Computer
-The Love We Make

I like some of the other songs, but I wish he would have just released this as a 1 song CD with 34 bonus tracks. (I've arbitrarily decided that 36 songs is just too long.)

I hate when he releases albums with songs that aren't my favorites, even if other people like them. What if I'm forced to listen to an entire album at gunpoint, and I'm not allowed to use the skip button?
