It looks like P will b in the top 10 for a while. I imagine after the tour picks back up and doing NY,CHICAGO,LAS VEGAS, and LA and even MINNEAPOLIS in June the hype only seems 2 get bigger and keeps him in the publics eye all summer. And after he puts out a second single i believe that the cd will have a steady burn and probably reach 1million sales in the USA by July. This cd has the potential 2 be his biggest seller since D&P's! I think he'll end up selling close to 2.5 million in the USA.

Don't forget - with sales from this week, it takes the total copies up to 512,000, which is certifiable for gold.

it looks like he might sell around 50,000 copies next week and without concert cd's added in it'll still be good enough to finish within the top 20

He's doing real damn well for an album without a hit single.

Release ICPC Prince! It's GOLD!

Well musicology IS somewhat of a hit single right now for Prince!

The album is pretty ok. it's certainly not his best, but it's an album you can listen to from beginning to end and it's still better than anything else in that top 10 here.

But i have to behonest, i really don't like the track Musicology that much (i'm thinking of remixing it for myself into a different album mix! wink, but it's fun, happy, easy, and when you hear it on the radio (i hear it everyday at least once here in belgium), it sounds so fresh amongst this so called hit shit right now.

Somehow i like the fact that other/new people pick up Prince again.
I just wonder how far back they will go (the new listeners) to discover the true magic of Prince.

Prince's sales right now are depending of a new single release (soon) and a splashing new video!

I was wondering, who actually did the new video? didn't read anything in here (yet)...
Anyone?

The "give-away" CDs...

Sorry if this has been discussed before -

Question: the give-away CDs Prince hands out at the concert, are they really "added on" to the ticket price?
If so, how much is for the CD vs for the concert?
And - finally - how much cut does Prince get from that money? Probably more from than from the CDs sold in the shops via Columbia.

Anybody who has an educated guess on this please reply... Cheerio :afro:

It's quite funny that we are even debating on how long Prince's album will stay in the top 10. Just last year at this time the idea that he'd even crack the top 10 seemed like a long shot.

He might drop out next week but if he does he will rebound back in2 the top 10 when the tour picks back up and probably stay awhile. Remember that this cd will get a second wind with the follow up single release if that's what P chooses 2 do.

If there were half descent new albums out now, he'd be wayyyy back on the list. The competition is lame.

Well the competion that is ahead of him right now isn't excatly great either. Yes, this isn't a great Prince album but is a good one and this time around, everything worked out for Prince commerically.

Absolutely. The funny thing is that years ago when I was still a hardcore fan, I couldn't wait for Prince to be popular again. Now he's popular, but it doesn't mean shit to me cuz I really dislike the music he's doing. If the album was great, I'd be thrilled right now.

I'm not thrilled with "Musicology" either but the one thing I felt when listiening to it was that it had a lot of promise. I think, I hope, that Prince's next album will be more on experimental and probably better. I think that he will improve after "Musicology".

It will depend on how the next single does. Remember how long Norah Jones first cd was on the charts b4 it went #1. And i do believe that Musicology has another spurt coming that just might get it there.

A long shot? An impossibility!! It's fucking fantastic to be wrong though...what an exciting time to be a Prince fan.

I just hope he doesn't get in his head that this type of music is what everyone wants to hear from now on. He needs a real change in direction.

The great thing about Musicology is that it doesn't sound like anything else out there now. It's pure Prince. I'm so glad he didn't hook up with a "hot" producer or rapper in order to sound like everything currently out there. It does remind me how Sign O The Times sounded totally different from everything else at the time. And today too.
For those not feeling the album, well, all I can say is I'm glad I'm not you.
Congrats again to Prince for a great CD and much deserved success. dancing jig

Musicology just grew on me today after about 2 weeks. How many musicians are on this sight?
This direction he took is very bold yet, very brilliant in melody and harmony. The lyrics are dead on, something new to hear..He's searching for something new and fresh with this cd.

I have to admit, if Life O' the Party was produced with a computer instead of real instruments,
it would be all over radio and in the clubs! Yet, Prince knows this. He's trying to get us back to real music. The drum beats are stimulating from a musicians point of view. The guitar riffs are so appealing, the complex arrangement of the brass and key sections are just incredible!
If David Bowie or Springteen had released this cd, the world would combust with awe!

Musicology is not Purple Rain. Prince said he could never top that kind of success. It had only 9 tracks and Prince admitted that he would not have changed a thing, it was perfect.
It will remain to be his crown jewel.

Musicology is like a new cd he just produced for the mainstream that he felt very proud of.
No doubt his image has changed dramatically, he's more approachable to the main audience.
Not nasty, or wierd mysterious. He has kept the ace of spades though, badass.
That is what he's saying in musicology with out a curse word. He did this, what can U do?
