WOW! I don't think I have ever read such an intelligent description of this album. This has got to be the most positive and well written summation about Lovesexy (aside from the mis-capitalization of the "S"). I especially dig the spiritual description, of it being "euphoric not pious." I love spirituality... down with man-made religions. Lovesexy was exactly that... euphoric. You could feel it in his singing, just like this reviewer stated: LoveSexy is a vocal playground and there’s true joy in the singing." Thanks for sharing this. I encourage any naysayer to read this article, go back and listen to Lovesexy as a whole... soak it in and catch the feeling, before speaking bad about this album again. Lovesexy Funkateer

I was wondering this morning if this phrase was ever used in a studio recording - I think it may have only been used on tour. I love how it sounds - just rolls off the tongue...

I haven't listened to it in a while. I need to pull it out. It was an excellent album and one that has stood the test of time. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I really like the way he described things too. When reviewers really get Prince, their reviews become pretty melodic too. Lovesexy is a very important album to me. And most days I can't decide if it is my #1 album or Purple Rain. I never tire of it.

EVERYTHING about this album AND era is magic for me. I was just graduating form High School and about to embark on my own "rebirth", the one where you go from an adolescent to an adult. This transition for me was almost scarily paralleled by Prince's music... for me, Lovesexy was the last time Prince would be seen (by me) as a mythological figure; a super-human so gifted and SO awe-inspiring that my obsession with him and his music was beginning to scare those around me (and myself to some degree, looking back on it). The Lovesexy era also marks the first time I ever saw him live, and lets just say any Love I had built up for him at that point became an indescribable burst of Euphoria...IT WAS like a drug, and I was hands-down a junkie!
After Lovesexy, my hero slowly became more human (see Batman, Graffiti Bridge, etc...), just as I was slowly becoming an adult. It was kinda like being told that there's no such thing as Santa Claus. I say this because I really have never gotten the same high from an album of his ever since. Now, that's not to say I still don't enjoy his music immensely, I DO, but Lovesexy, for me, was the last time He lived on Mount Olympus- and it was almost necessary for him to "come down from the mountain" a little after '88 because, for my own mental health, if he had continued being that level of wickedly insanely creative, I probably would have started "the church of Prince" in his honor! The colors (teal blue & fuscia), the album cover, the clothes (MY GOD-- the CLOTHES!!!!) the concerts, the spirituality...feeling you get when you fall in Love... and more than anything- the MUSIC was all the biggest, most beautiful Mind F**K I have ever experienced. THANK YOU PRINCE for LOVESEXY!!! and for ending my teenage years on such a high.

Back in 1988 & 1989, I told my friends that I wanted to create a LoveSexy church. Full of all the purple & pink lillies and euphoria that you can think of. I mean, the LoveSexy LP put me in that state of mind. It was the converging of all that's spiritual and sexy and made it one; made it acceptable...it made Love sexy and made Sensuality lovely. I'll never forget going to the record store just to check out the CD, I was a Jehovah's Witness at that time and wasn't suppposed to listen to Prince, how ironic, right? Anyway, I was looking at the new LP release display and couldn't find Prince's until I noticed someone without any clothing in my peripheral. When I focused on the image I almost fell out. It was Prince naked on a flower! Well, I wanted to sing praises because I knew that Prince's new CD was a unifying, yet liberating, musical trip, even before I ever heard any other tracks aside from "Alphabet Street". I felt freedom just thinking about that LP and later had my chance in late 1988. Yes, I wasn't a JW anymore and was able to listen to as much Prince as I wanted. I still don't regret that experience and yes.... it was truly a liberating and uplifting LOVESEXY day for me. Hehehe... dropped by the record store after school (graduated like 15 days later), looked at the cover and was like 'oh boy he finally has slipped over the edge'. Bought the LP and then formulated my plan to sneak it into the house without my Dad seeing it.
Dropped the stylus on the vinyl and was carried away... and I loved how it had no pauses. One long continous groove. Bought the CD when I was in tech school ('89) and was surprised when it was one track. "My names Andre Crabtree the Third, I got more ho's than a golf course!"

Bust out the balloons and candles, and tell us all what present you're giving Lovesexy. Holy smokes. 16 years. I'm an old man. I was a freshman in college when I got this. Make me feel tiny if it makes you feel tall, but there's always someone cooler than you. - Ben Folds

Lovesexy was (is!) such a turning point in my life. It took me about a month to buy it, because I was so ashamed of the album cover and, just WHO is this guy Prince??? However, I was I N H E A V E N L O V E with Alphabet St. (and I only bought that 45 because of the funky fonky packaging....the Sound Shop clerk actually allowed me to sample listen to the 45 in the store before I decided that well, the songs awright but the packaging is slammin'. But somehow the fonk got in my blood and I will tell you I danced HARD to that song every day after school when I was in high school. My rhythm innate was FORTIFIED with Alphabet St. (Thank u Prince) So I was sucked into the Lovesexy world and finally got the album (dubbed for me by high school girl) and the cassette sleeve was slipped/given to me by Record Bar clerk I was friends with. She gave me the store's copy. I made my own remixes of Alphabet St., Glam Slam, and I Wish U Heaven as they came out. Those songs were perfect and I had the best summer '88. I Heart U Prince!!!!! heavy feather flicka nipple baby scram water ripple

Cool! I remember being a 9yr old when it came out. I sat in my window and read along with the lyrics as the record played. Yup, we got it on wax. Funny, everyone complains about the CD being 1 track. I would pick up the record needle...Ah, the memories Thank You San Alejo for getting rid of my enemies. :-0
Thank You SO much Saint Expedite for your help Thank You Virgin de Guadalupe for helping my friend Thank You Saint Anthony for returning my wallet to me untouched

As a 9yr old (when this albulm came out) Iwasn't really ashamed of the cover. I just figured that who he was. Of course, me and my lil bro would point at the cover and say "ha, he's naked" But as soon as "eye no " blared from the speakers our lil butts were hopping around the coffee table shaking our thang. Thank You San Alejo for getting rid of my enemies. :-0

Really!?
Happy B-day, Lovesexy!! Lovesexy was the first Prince album I ever bought...I bought it on cassette, at the BX on Osan Air Base in Korea (!)...loved that album (still do!), darn near wore that cassette out!
