Actually, Simon said that "Purple Rain" was in his top five songs of all time. Said it was "perfectly crafted".

I would love to see the contestants sing some of his songs.

Nah. Not to pass judgement on AI, since I don't watch it, but whenever I do catch short glimpses of it, the singers always seem to be doing some cheesy, overblown song.
But hey, it's given us Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken, so it can't be all bad. The NyQuil must be kicking in. I better lay down now.
