When you are so negative about new music so soon and without any nuances, I think you better start to ask yourself if you are still a Prince fan or admirer and if you are not better off leaving the fan community sites...

I finally heard the song (It's on dutch radio stations now, btw) and I saw the video too.
I probably would've dug it back about 8 years ago or so...but now, it's just stale...same old shit.
He's trying way too hard to prove that he is "still funky".... he "was" funky!!! Now, it just seems he's trying. I ain't feeling it.

The HOF performance of "while my guitar gently weeps" was amazing. I actually felt something in his playing like I used too.

But this "going back to the old school" is just a freakin shame. He's talks about the old days as if there is nothing good about the "new" music...It's already been done before.

I have a hard time with extreme fans who lap up everything that Prince does, says, etc. But I'm also astonished by the instantaneous, reactionary vitriol that arises the moment Prince does ANYTHING. He performs, we bitch about the set list. We want music, he releases music, and the first reaction is to tear it to shreds.

While I love this site for the continued fascination people have with Prince, I'm disturbed by the subtle sense that people out there are hoping - and expecting - for him to fail. For many, I don't think anything will be good enough.

I don't at all think that people should be uncritical. I'm among the first to say that Rave was one of his worst all-time albums, while TRC is a mixture of brilliant musicianship and ridiculous pretension, and NEWS is good only as background fodder.

But isn't there a breaking in period? Don't you savor the music at all before spitting it out? Why not try and enjoy first instead of taking in the expectation that it'll suck and having those preconceptions solidified? I'll be much more inclined to believe people's opinions after things have settled down a bit. Give the music three days. A week. Hell, even a month. See where it takes you. Maybe it'll be nowhere - but maybe, just maybe, there will be some songs that'll stand the test of time.

Musicology is a FUCKEN AWESOME album, just a star short (****) of albums like Parade and Sign O the Times (*****).

By the way, it rather amuses me to see that most people who diss Musicology are the ones whose posts show very little signs of intelligence.

ive got a solution....if u dont like it, dont listen to it....simple

i personally love the album, its up the with the best of prince albums for sure
