What does "the vault" look like & where is it?

This is really a general term for his masters collection over the years, right? I mean has anyone walked by a door that says "vault" on a sign at P.Park? Is it in Warner Bros. Office basement? Is it in Hawaii at his winter retreat? Maybe an uploadable prive website for he & his staff only? Is it a purple offsite storage facility in Minneapolis with a humidification air system to keep all those 2 inch tapes from freezing with an around the clock security force guarding those icy steel doors, or what???

I thought it was just a way to market his vast songwriting catalog...this is just discussion, but funny answers are ok 2..... biggrin

Yes, the vault exists. Of course, Prince could be just storing canned vegetables there - but it does exist.

This from that 'Ryde Divine' video thing, the woman says it is the famous 'vault':

It seems to be in a room full of awards.

That is the Vault.

When we went down in 2000, we came in through the Garage. We were at the bottom of some stairs and it was kinda darkish. Enough to see objects and things, but not a lot of detail of carpet and all that.

To the left was the guitar room where there were TONS of guitars (specificly, the old school Hohner that Takumi was reconditioning for Prince). To the right was the Vault with the door open. It's kind of a small door, not much bigger than the average home's front door, steel and kinda thick. The inside has a bunch of racks of dat tapes, cassettes and CDs. There was a table with a playback device of some sort and I think I saw some sequencing equipment or a 24-track or something. Then we went back upstairs. The size of the room was no bigger than a regular sized living room at the most.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

And there were more than guitars in the guitar room I guess. There were drum equipment, the Steel Drum that was used in Parade, tamborines. I guess it was the "Instrument Room" and not so much the guitar room.

I just remember feeling that everything was a LOT smaller than I imagined it would be.

Da hell..."When we went down in 2000, we came in through the Garage." What are you saying? You just straight strolled into the man's private office property like that ( I can just hear you hummin' "Strollin" down the back stairwell). No escort or nothin' hunh? Why you insane lil' rascals.....They shoulda had you flogged in front of the staff & rolled you out the delivery door on yo' ass for that one! Naughty naughty.....

Amazing. The Holy Grail, the Nelson family fortune, piled up in a dank sublevel closet with old tape decks & used guitars. Wow. Sounds like my first home studio.

But, alas we thank you o' brave strollers. I too wish 2 come back as a Dauphin. Tell us...any old bandmembers in storage beneath the Bentleys and Limos as well? Fink, Dez, Brown Mark perhaps?

Yup. Everyone who went to the first Celebration saw it with their own eyes. It exists.

TC Ellis was stored in there as well...

Have you Rainbow Children lost your minds? How can I put this...

The Purple Madness would never...no, let's quote Chris Tucker :"Neva eva eva eva" let his own mama, his baby mama, his baby mama's mama, his brothers and sisters, let alone any ticket paying groupie mortals near those true master recordings without a federal court order and a crowbar! Why..... I bet you he made a dummy room to lead you all astray. We're talking about a funky control freak of the week, fam. C'mon! Prince? Oh Lawd!!!!

They're talking about (I presume) attending the week long Celebrations from a couple of years back where fans could go on tours round PP and attended nightly shows by the man and related artists.

Yep. During the first Celebration in 2000, parties were showed the vault, with some groups admitted into the ante room.

The existence of the room had previously been corroborated by Levi Seacer in interview (assuming he wasn't fabricatingit).

It was also stated during the tour on the 2000 Celebration that Prince does not store all his material in the Vault - he has storage facilities elsewhere for material too.

You've seen another person mention it and I'll confirm it: That is the vault that was shown to us on the tour back in 2000. I remember that it felt really strange at the bottom of that stairwell when the guide was telling us what is was. People become almost reverant. smile

geez, i hope i don't get any flack for what i'm about to say.....

but people, just because you were told something, wait, just because you saw something does not mean it is what you think. Like someone stated before, i find it hard to believe that someone with P's rep would let any of us cronies near that shit. All I'm saying is that don't be so quick to believe shit.

Then again, I'm naturally questioning and pessimistic, so don't listen to me anyway.....

Thanx 4 that - Ive always wondered about the size of the vault, and something just told me that even if it WAS big, it can't store an infinate amount of stuff - even if they were DATS.

Interesting - cheers.
