not that it's totally incomprehensible, but Dolphin always made me think: what was it about? is it about the record industry (Prince vs. WB) or life in general? or spmething else?

A few questions about certain songs....

***"Do Me Baby"---How come, after he has his orgasm,he tells his lover "I'm so cold"? In the heat of passion, you should be sweaty hot!! smile

Probably when you stop boneing and your all sweaty the cool air hits your skin, and makes you chilly after a while I guess:)

There's a lot of son't of princes that simply don't have a point and I'm content w/ that. But 1 song I know has a point and I just don't get it is Wasted Kisses, can some1 please explain. and no, I don't believe that prostitute bit.

I always got the impression that "Wasted Kisses" is about someone who was in a relationship with someone who wound up committing suicide. Just the way I always interpreted it. The whole bit at the end with someone knocking on a door, coming in, and screaming just gave me the impression of someone finding a body. I always thought the whole line about the "cheap perfume all over your burgandy stockings/ the ones I tied u up with/ i should have just left them there" was referring to him wishing he had disposed of an article of clothing that she used to hang herself with. I may be totally off base, but that is my interp.

Some other quick notes:

"Computer Blue"- I always thought this song was about impotence. Maybe not in a literal way, but at least emotionally. The analogy that the computer would be "blue" without the "Righteous One" is summed up by the part that was cut out from the final mix: "Poor lonely computer/ it's time someone programmed u/ it time u learned love and lust/ they both have 4 letters/ but they are entirely different words". The "computer" is Prince. He is not funtioning properly because he has not been programmed to differentiate between love and lust. "The Righteous One" could be interpreted as either God, or a woman who will teach him about love. That is why he can't find his "love life" (which could either be taken as a reference to an inability to acheive erection, or as an emotional emptiness).

"Dolphin"- definitely about his struggles with WB

"Fascination"- Without a doubt, this song is about corruption in the industry, as well as all the young 'uns jockin' Prince's style.

I think the most incomprhensible Prince has to be La, la, la he, he, hee (the SOTT B-side). It's just plain silly...

'When The Lights Go Down' -- while it is my favorite song on The Vault, I must admit that Prince mumbled through the whole damned thing.

I agree with you there! I could never decipher the lyrics to that song, so I have no idea what he's talking about through it.

I'd say that "No Light In A Large Room" is the most incomprehnsible as far as what the lyrics mean...still a great song though.

"She always stood in the back of the line, a smile beneath her nose..."....welp, there were a whole BUNCH of student who had "smiles beneath their noses" all the time...not cuz of special needs, but cuz of special weeds..lol..

I've often wondered--WHERE ELSE would her smile be? A smile ABOVE her nose would just be scary!
How about a smile just left of her elbow?
A friend of mine said "butterscotch clouds" meant pancakes. Okay, what's so weird about what she had for breakfast then?
Lots of people have "butterscotch clouds" for breakfast if that's really what that means.
My "knowledgeable" friend is still unable to explain what "starfish" is a reference to though.

Alphabet St. is about giving head, of course, like 80% of Prince's songs. Evidence:

"I'm going down..." Um...hello? This is Prince.

"Alphabet St." in itself is a reference to writing the alphabet (I hear the Greek alphabet is the preferred) with your tongue while you do your duty...see "The Continental" and "Come" for reference on this.

And of course Cat raps, "Talk 2 me lover, Come on tell me what U taste?" - Yeah, he's tasting the "cat" all right.

"Straight up, it tastes good, it makes U feel clever" - need I go on?

And how about that ending: "A, B, C, D, E, F, H" - what's that sample in the background. Prince eating a peach? For real? Why do you think she skipped a letter - because she couldn't concentrate.. Prince said in some interview that she skipped a letter because "she was getting kissed."

Now see, this is what I'm talkin' about! This is what Alphabet Street is about to me.

But I see some people were wondering about Computer Blue. Let me offer my perverted analysis if I may.

I was always under the impression that Computer Blue coulda been about blueballs. Yep, that's right...BLUE BALLS. I brought this up on the PPML like 30 years ago....and I'll give it to ya again. BLUE BALLS.

Let's look at the lyrics, dammit! wink

Where is my love life?
Where can it be?
There must be something wrong with the machinery!

Translation: I haven't gotten head in months. What's the problem? Is my package (machinery) broken? Does this thing come with a warranty?

Where is my love life?
Tell me, where has it gone?
Somebody please please tell me what the hell is wrong!

Translation: Where are the damn chicks?! I USED to get head all the time! Where are they now? Do I stink or something? Ow...this pain....pain in my balls.....what....ah....SOMEBODY PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG!

Till I find the righteous one
Computer blue

Translation: Until I find a chick to give me head, my balls are blue.

Till I find the righteous one
Computer blue

Translation: I said until I find the righteous woman to give me mouth love, COMPUTER BLUE!

There you have it. Discuss.

I always thooght Alphabet Street was about Prince's new found restraint. He doesn't have sex with the girl he is courting in the song, much like the rest of the songs on LoveSexy. "I'm gonna put her in the backseat and drive her... to Tennessee." Now you know the line that normally would follow is Exstacy. And check the next line -"I don't mean to be rude, but 2night, I'm just not, I'm just not in the mood. So if U don't mind, I would like to watch." Also, check out some of the other songs on the album Lovesexy-"I don't want 2 touch U, I just want 2 look at U" When 2 R in Love-"Before we do anything, let me just talk 2 U."

As for most incomprehensible song, audibly it took me years to figure out the line in Adore when he says "I aint fucking just for kicks." As for comprehension, in the context of the album, I have no idea what 3 Chains of Gold is all about. Is it the Princess who is after his chains? And what do the chains symbolize? Help!
"I dare any man in here to look in his eyes and not feel...something."
