Blaqueknight and others I never thought that Prince was virtuoso on guitar on the tecqnique aspect of the word. but seeing some things he is playing nowadays, i thing it´s hard to deny that he is a master of the instrument. His phrasing is very clean and somewhat exotic compared to him in the past, it´s a perfect mix of rock jazz and blues. PRince is still holding up on the albums with small solos. But his phrasing nowadays is far from standart rock/blues improvisations. So why do you still thinks that Prince is an ordinary guitar player? Did you really listen to the kinda of thing he is playign nowadays? The solo of Cinnamon girl is not very hard to play, but i checked an instrumental that thebanished one sended to me and it´s simply incredible.
This thread is only for musicans, PLEASE . i would not like to read things like "prince is the better guitar player of the world" Soul. feeling, melodic sense apart. I want you to discuss the tecqnique side of his playing, his attack, picking and scales.

...then shouldn't this be in the org Artist's forum? "Pedro offers you his protection."

...then shouldn't this be in the org Artist's forum? No, because this kind of painfully endless arguement never goes on in the Artists forum, only here...(duh?) Maybe some more senior musicians can give proper insight into how Prince's technical abilities make him stand out from the rest, or what nuances have made his sound or style unique, but as far as I'm concerned it's not just the way he plays guitar but also the songs that he lays his guitar down to that make Prince the unique 'guitarist' that he is. I mean, Prince from day one, was never 'a guitarist', he was essentially and 'song craftsman' using all the tools necessary to get to the end. Some may say (including some guitar magazines) that the extended sustained notes of his solo's particularly during the purple rain period exemplify the Prince, others will point out the tone he achieves on The Undertaker live boot (during Poor Goo I think, and also showcased on the ONA DVD) as UNIQUE to Prince, but I just say that the way Prince has used his guitar as part of a song structure makes him stand out from the rest....not necessarily better than the rest, but definitely unique. ..... BULLSEYE!
