WILL A MILLION DAYS MAKE MUSICOLOGY OR BREAK MUSICOLOGY? I understand that a million days will be the next single and if so, will it have a nuff to hold Musicology at the top of the charts or will the single be weak and kill the album.
There has to be a single that will receive some air play or this album will die.

This is an album album, if you get what I mean -- apart from the title cut, there's not too much that would get a lot of people dancin' or anything...there are no Little Red Corvette's or Kiss's or anything. It's a good album, but the singles are very scant.
A million days will probably do about as well as any of his late 90s output.....that is, not especially well.

Illusion Coma Pimp and Circumstance would get play....it's just cool.
Although musicology is all over the TV and radio stations in Australia...FYI. "I have a date with Lisa. Isn't that wonderful?"

Although musicology is all over the TV and radio stations in Australia...FYI. ICPAC is by far the best song on the album IMHO, whereas AMD is ...well, average.. With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

I think A Million Days without a doubt will get play/exposure and help the album. But its up to Sony to apply the pressure to make it happen. It is undetermined whther the lack of radio success for the single "Musicology" had to do with the record company only pushing it to a few markets or the fact that it really didn't fit Top 40 and/or AC formats to cross over. With a catchy pop song like AMD radio should be much more receptive and Sony should do what it can to get the song some spins. If it takes pulling out incriminating photos of station managers with farm animals, so be it.
A hit single is all this album needs to turn it from a successful venture to a blockbuster one. The groundwork is already laid promotion wise. Prince could not be any more in the public eye. Pop radio does not want to be left out of this completely! I really believe they'll climb on board. MTV, VH1, BET have got to stay on board too. Please, Prince, make the video slamming! (Beavis) Yeah, have it with a lot of explosions and naked chicks and fire, fire, fire. (Butthead) It's a love song, dumbass. Just put the naked chicks in it. Naked chicks are cool! All good things they say never last...

I think A Million Days can only help the album, as it shows a completely different sound to the title track. To make this album a a big hit, he needs to cross boundries again. Funk, rock, soul, folk, black, white, etc etc. A Million days is a rock track. A good move on the back of a funky track.
Third single> Illision Fourth> Cinammon Girl Thats the way to sell it. .

imo it's the best song on the album for a hit. but, the bridge is awkward. stil, it rox

I think 'A Million Days' could make Musicology, the bridge is very "yeah, that's gotta be Prince" strange but cool and smooth (like he always is ). I really want 'ICP&C' to be a single, that would do well, or maybe 'If Eye was the man in U'r life'???

AMD is weak. Only people I know who like this song are folk up here on the org. I got friends big into jazz, hiphop, and top forty pop and no one I know likes this corny ass throwaway song. Obviously I’m not really feeling it either. This song will disappear quick. Save this thread and spit it back in my face if I’m wrong – I hope I am. In my opinion the most successful top five singles, and there are no really good choices, are: 1) Call My Name 2) ICPC 3) Reflection…hmm that’s it. Can’t even come up with five. Cinnamon Girl is a possibility but it’s my least favorite song on the record and I have trouble seeing it really take off. ego tripping out

The hook, the music, the mix (his voiced is burried by the music), the lyrics, the vocal all bad. [This message was edited Thu May 6 19:07:35 2004 by Alexandernvrmind] Dance... What about "On The Couch"? I think *that* would be a hit single. I hope that is considered for release! Everybody's looking 4 the answers
How the story started and how it will end What's the use in half a story, half a dream U have 2 climb all of the steps in between......RIP Prince

I don't know anymore. I didn't expect "Musicology" to do as well either. A great video would definitely help.

AMDs will make it! | |

Musicology not charting doesn't surprise me, it's just a straight forward funk jam with no hook at all.
Honestly, I very seriously doubt A Million Days has a chance of charting either. I think it's a great song, but it really needed more of a hook, like maybe more of an extended guitar solo or a more seamless bridge at least. At the very least though, it ends really strongly and is easily relateable. Out of all the songs on Musicology that I've played to my friends, they all universally like ICPC, and a lot actually really like Call My Name too. I partially agree with you, I like your choices for singles, but A Million Days is simple (weak, and simple) and mainstream music fans like that kinda thing, I kinda could just see it getting some airplay. Hey, the people gobbling up 90% of the CD's out now obviously don't pay attention to the quality of the music. I just imagine that AMD would get airplay in my neck of the woods (all the critics love you in New York, Right? ) And I agree with you about Cinnamon Girl too. It's OK I guess, But not radio/MTV music.

I dont know what MILLION DAYS will do...I dont think its a good idea to release this as the second single..I think CINNAMON GIRL has a better chance..especially with its relevance to 9-1-1.....I also think that Marrying Kind/If I was The Man would be a good release as a single

have we actually seen verification that AMD will be the 2nd single?
Assuming it is, I think it's a great choice. When i first listened to the album, this is the track that stuck in my head as a good single. Driving, melodic rock song.... good stuff. Love the vocal arrangement. It's a winner. Will it translate to chart success? Hard to say.

With the right video it'll work. I still think Call My Name is the strongest cut on the lp. It is reminiscent of International Lover.
I will have to listen it Million Days again. Kinda of a strange choice for a single.

Three quick things:
1) PP9 has confirmed that the second single is "Call My Name." 2) Why is everyone still acting as if "Musicology" is being promoted haphazardly? Just judging by the handling of the project thus far it's easy to see that Sony/Prince are working the album in a very precise fashion. Rest assured that whatever single is sent to Top 40 will be the song that program directors have already agreed to get behind. Sony's not about to force a bad single on pop radio and hang an albatross around Prince's neck. Before they ship the Top 40 cut they'll know they have a winner going in. 3) It's official: "Musicology" is my favorite Prince album since "Lovesexy." I love or very much like every cut and it's steadily growing into a classic for me. Peace, David

I dunno, after so many non Prince fans have said they like Call My Name, I'm starting to think it might actually do pretty well. Non Prince fans haven't seemed to give much of a damn about A Million Days.
Now if The Kid had released ICPC as the next single, followed by Call My Name, that would've just been too good. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
