No, he's just very consciously mimicking that sound, especially with the Linn Drum.

Yeah...it's one of the things that makes it one of my favorite tracks on the album, though. It so honestly reminds you of Prince's glory 80s days without being a limp ripoff of himself. I could EASILY imagine that thing coming from SIGN O THE TIMES!

i'm saying.

i haven't really listened to the song's lyrics, but the sound
(especially the linn drum) resembles his 'sign o' the times'
era and makes me wonder if this isn't just an 80's outtake
we've never known about. it's possible, isn't it?

Without confirmation, we can't say 100%, but I think it's safe to say it is a completely new song, just done with the Linn (or an emulator of some sort).

I think it sounds quite whimsical, and would fit Dream Factory more than SOTT. smile

If you need confirmation it's a new song, listen to the moralistic tone of the lyrics, in which he's scolding a girl for flirting with a married man. There's no way he would have written that in 1987, or anytime in his career pre-JW for that matter.
