yes, i know, a stupid question for this site....

BUT i found myself asking this last nite when i put on the skates and got into a verbal scrap at a roller rink. apparently, saturday nites at this particular rink are "Christian Nights" -- where Christian families are supposed to come out and rock n' roll (ha!) to their favorite Christian jams...so i thought, what the hell, i'll ask mr. "deejay" if he would play some Prince.

"what! Prince don't got no gospel music!"

i says, "what are u talking about, ever hear of the rainbow children?"

"what!"

i says, "you know, the ol' boy is pretty solid with the lord right now, try out the rainbow children, here..."

"what! prince don't got no gospel music."

but i don't quite understand what he was referring to when he was saying "gospel music." he was playing all this weakos weirdo hip - hop -- bands like "god's annoited soldiers" and "holy ghost filled" (sp?) (kinda creepy name there). this wasn't your grandma's gospel music like you would hear on the ernest angley show or the oral roberts show. so why couldn't mr. deejay play me my rainbow children??

would YOU call rainbow children gospel music? could we even venture that n.e.w.s. is? musicology? DIRTY MIND?

i remember hearing just as long as we're together at a roller rink. i was about 6.

If I ran a roller rink, I would play Prince all the time. Shit, I gotta enjoy myself too. If it was Christian night, I would play songs like Dolphin, Holy River, The Cross, Soul Sanctuary, etc. If they ain't cool with that, they're SOL.

After I was done playing Xanadu, sure.

I would play that awful video with Prince rollerskating on constant rotation. Pretty soon, I'd be out of business.

-- quad skates only (any muh'fuh i see sneakin rollerblades in my spot gets the boot!)

Dang this reminds me back in the day when "Let's Work" was always played at the rink, everybody was out on the floor when it came on. Ah, remembering the days. But to answer your question, hell yeah, it's my rink.

I don't know how to skate, but if I ever went to a rink and they played a Prince song, I would tie on some quads and pray that I wouldn't fall on my ass.

By the way, a good name for a rink would be Pair-A-Dice.
