PAINT IT PURPLE BY GEOFF MAYFIELD
http://www.billboard.com/...1000500350 PAINT IT PURPLE: Even without credit for copies distributed at his Columbia, S.C., concert, the new Prince album would stand as his best Nielsen SoundScan week yet (see story, page 1). Aside from TV appearances and visibility rendered by the current tour and his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Prince's Columbia outing is further energized by his biggest hit since 1999. The title track from the new "Musicology" bullets at No. 46 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold," the lead track from the Arista-distributed "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic," had a higher rank on that chart in its fifth week, but the audience for "Musicology" at stations in that format is larger than "Romance" had in that same time frame. Video channels bolster visibility for the new set's title song. During the tracking week, "Musicology" played 49 times on VH1, 32 times on MTV, 13 times on MTV2 and nine times on BET. The video for "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" had not yet been seen on video outlets when "Rave" hit stores. Also, the once-shy Prince has become a favorite TV booking. Since February, he has appeared on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," "Tavis Smiley" and two shots on "Today." On April 28, a half-hour Prince special had a simultaneous cablecast on five Viacom channels, including MTV, BET and VH1. © 2004 VNU eMedia Inc. All rights reserved.

The RAVE cd was a good 1 in my mind. But remember he was still 0(+> then. Now he's Prince again aand all is better. What a difference in perception. I like both cd's 4 different reasons just like his last 4. I would love 2 see the day that P can tour the new material and see how the NPGMC grows! Growth when it comes 2 new or unreleased material. This is only the beginnig! U,ME,WE!....2FUNKY!

This is only the beginnig! And another thing, some of these critics diss NEWS and never mention that it was P's first grammy nominated album since D&P's. I wonder Y? Seems 2 me with all of this so called comeback talk that if critics do they're homework maybe the comeback started then!U,ME,WE!....2FUNKY!

And all that with such a mediocre album as Musicology, an album who doesn't bring nothing new to the table... didn't know the music business is inmerse in such a deep hole.

(I remember reading a billboard article saying based on The Most Beautiful Girl, stations were planning to spin 'Letitgo' a TON) At least BET ran "The One" a few times.. Just goes to show, the music now takes a backdoor to the selling of the brand... "Prince" is easy to market if you really really care to do so... and he agrees(?) ********************************************
