Moderator | The most definitive Prince Funk album? "The Black Album" or "Exodus"?
something else, maybe? I'm putting together a Prince funk album for a bass player buddy of mine to practice too. A lot of tracks are from both of these albums so I thought I'd post one of those "VS" posts that I hate seeing on here time and time again. Well? All Rights Reserved. |

Moderator | Track one is "Peak the Technique" from a live cut I recently re-discovered on my hard-drive.
I could have just gave him that one to kick his arse. All Rights Reserved. |

Both albums have a mood swing song like "When 2 R in Love" and "Cherry, Cherry". But which one is more funk saturated. I'm leaning tward Exodus, but that may be because it's more bass heavy? I know that black album lacked some engineering work. All Rights Reserved. |

The extended version is the only one worth copying to CD. The hits version cuts off where it's just about to get all funky and complete! IMO, that is. Shiiit, usually I don't come down like this - but TRC is about as funky as a shrink wrapped copy of NPS (although it’s much better than NPS but still, in my humble ass opinion, extremely overrated). Answer to this Q has got to be the Black Album. No question about it in my mind. 2nd place? 1999 and Dirty Mind. ego tripping out

I know that black album lacked some engineering work. i think you mean production work...the engineering is fine, otherwise we mightn't be hearing anything. it's just a standard prince eighties production...i think it's funky...exodus is too hip-hop influenced. i don't know, it's a toss up between electro funk of the black album or the hip hop savvy funk of exodus. it's a matter of taste i guess.

It's not an "Official" realease but what about "Camille". Extreme hard electro-funk. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I could have just gave him that one to kick his arse. That´s from a concert in Paisley Park on 14/2/1994. The concert was filmed for "The Beautiful Experience"-Video and broadcast on the radio under the name "A Night In Erotic City". It´s my favourite concert ever! See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

the black album is not produced or engineered poorly, it just sounds like the LP eq'd master was used for the cd... similar to lovesexy or Signothetimes. They need to make cds from a cd master... its up to warners... I think... My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
