If you read his interview on MTV, he gives a preface where he talks about how he has interviewed lots of famous folks and never really been nervous...But he said Prince turned him into school girl fan mode. Being nervous he said he started fumbling for questions that were not previously discussed and apparently they weren't well recieved. Personally, I watched BET and their interviewer was much better from what I hear.

His problem is that he needs to stifle his own urges to prove his "realness" to the masses. Until then, he's cornball. Mos Def comin' out dancin' in a yellow superman outfit and actin' a fool on Chappelle's Show is realer than Sway on his best day on MTV.

so what if he comes off as corny. he has a lot more respect in the industry than most people on mtv. that is how mtv got turned onto him in the first place. the cat has been around for a long time. and simply because he might not "sound urban" to some of you. he knows what is goin on. i just wish he'd get rid of those damned head wraps.

I am expressing an opinion.

If you disagree, that's cool, to-may-to/to-mah-to, and so on.

The crux of the problem is that, his industry rep notwithstanding, he tries too hard to "sound urban" (to use your phrase) to the masses and plays himself in the process. The fact that he does have a modicum of respect in the industry makes it only more annoying. Just be your durn self and wear your cred lightly.
