"With this Tear" Hey Guys!!,
I have a question. I have a Celine Dion CD. It is the one with Beauty & the Beast. Well, on that CD there is a song called, "With this tear". It was written by Prince. Does anyone know the history of this song? When did he write it, was it for an album and lastly, did he ever record it himself. By the way, it is a beautiful song. Celine did a wonderful job. As far as I am aware, the song was never intended for one of Prince's own projects. Presumably a recording was sent to Dion, but I'm unaware of that version circulating. . He was reported to have telephoned her after he heard the finished product to say how much he liked her version. (Personally, I can't stand it.) . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I can't answer your question with certainty, but you can pretty much bet money on the fact that every song Prince "gives" to someone else has at least a raw demo version that he recorded himself. As far as I know, Prince never has his music transcribed, he simply records and records, and records. The final piece of the puzzle that has to be put together is in figuring out how much Prince is involved in the final production of the song that he gives away. As far as whether or not the song was intended for another Prince project, all I can say is that I would have to assume that any Prince song always has the possibility of being included in a project at some point or another. GREAT VOCALS IN MY OPINION, BUT THAT SONG IS WAY TOO SAD
I'VE ALWAYS THOUGHT THE SONG'S ABOUT A PERSON WHOSE PARTNER DIED OF AIDS "With this arms I held you when you told me you were dying I had less courage it's true and you wrote everyday writing 'bout the things that we could do when your pain went away but all that went away was you" "America is a continent..."

It sounds like it could have been written for a musical or something.

I've just listened to it again and have remembered why I don't really play this song..
Celine Dion is singing like she just had all her teeth pulled out at the dentist's surgery and the aneasthetic hadn't worn off. Thus, "That night in the restaurant" becomes: "Vannadin da refdurron" and so on...

It goes to show you what a great songwriter he is...
I remember thinking that was the best song on the album before reading the liner notes to discover that Prince had written it. I personally think it's a beatiful, if sad, song, and that Dion's vocal delivery of it is very emotional and heartfelt. A great song for her. She was LUCKY he wrote it. Keith/Kacey
