The reason Prince may never be a number one artist again has nothing to do with the music he is making, and everything to do with MTV. Mtv pretty much killed everything that is good music. Yes, Prince did use Mtv to his advantage...he had the image to do so, and still does. But Mtv has watered down music with it's image based mentality. 90% of the music coming out today is total crap....any new band is uniquely modeled after the last successful band. Music becomes diluted and everything starts sounding the same. This is true in Rock, Country, Rap, and RnB. So many clones, no original talent. There are a couple of bright spots on the music horizon though, Outcast is producing some amazing records (andre3000 is kind of a prince clone). And there are a couple of rock groups The Darkness and JET...who are breaking the CREED/Linkin Park sound(THANK GOD). These types of trends tend to point towards a comeback for Prince because these groups are popular on Mtv. Maybe, just maybe, kids are getting tired of being told WHATS COOL by those pricks at Mtv..... | |

Preach the word, son.... I keep looking for good music, and I wind up digging out my old CDS. If Musicology is not a huge commercial sucess, Prince may not be the reason for that. All I know is regardless of how many great reviews,promotion his next lp has to be stronger. You only as good as your last record. Prince will always be around, but the bigger question is can he make a better record in this era? | |
