Check Out Radio Play on Usher/Winians

Anyone disappointed in the Number 3 opening for Musicology, consider this. Just got the USA Today and check out the latest radio airplay figures for the two artists above him on the album chart:

1. Usher "Yeah" (160.4 million listeners)

2. Mario Winians "I Don't Wanna Know" (135.2 million listeners)

3. Usher "Burn" (111.5 million listeners)

This is what Prince is up against and Sony has to know that in order to take this album to the next level, they are going to have to get a single out there that radio will embrace.

In my view, the album is already a hit and I certainly congratulate Prince and the Sony team for the stellar debut!
All good things they say never last...

Like I said before, P has done remarkably well considering "Musicology" is not a major airwave hit. It seems as though the video, Grammy, HOF performances, along with the good reviews for the album and concerts is what's pushing the sales. We gotta give both Sony and P their props. That's a major accomplishment considering the fickleness of the market.

It seems to me that the radio stations here in the Twin Cities are usually a few weeks behind the video channels when it comes to new songs. Theres always a delay from when I see the video to when I actually hear the song on the radio.

How said you can't fight city hall (well, rather Clear Channel hall) but the fact that Prince debuted in the Top 3 is pretty damn impressive. Consider the fact that there are a large number of older established male rock and R&B acts (in Prince's case, both) that debut in the Top 10 but then drop like a stone because they have no hit single. The fact that Prince's numbers were so big and that the promotion for this album is quite big, I think the sales could stick. "Musicology" isn't very radio friendly (not say that what s radio friendly these days is good) but there are a few songs on the album that could even break the cold, cold heart of the Republicans that own all the radio stations in America.
