He really needs to do a 360 and come out with something amazing if he wants to get a fresh buzz going on.
well, i'm 27. my boyfriend is 24. i work with 21 year olds. all of the above dig prince and his new record. judging from the teens at the shows i've been to so far, i'd say his appeal is generally across the board. people just need to HEAR about him again. this seems even more obvious since his shows are selling out after being on tv and awards shows. hmmm, coincidence? the comment about no one being excited about the new material? funny, a lot of magazine reviews seem to be excited about it. viacom seems to be excited about it. sony seems to be excited by it. most of the people on these boards seem to be excited by it. the 17,000 people at each sold out arena seem to be excited about it. all of the consumers that are making this a top 5 on the charts seem to be very excited about it. what more do you need? Reviews mean nothing. The concerts are selling out because people wanna hear the old stuff. Outside of the Org, I haven't met one person who likes Musicology or even know what it is. Who is "we"?? I think P is just years ahead of everybody - I'm finally starting to see what he meant about being "free". He's doing shit on his own terms, ducking in & out of the industry when he feels like it (so he says, I hope it's true). Nothing wrong w/ that... He's happy, so am I. Long as I get the tunes!

Outside of the Org, I haven't met one person who likes Musicology or even know what it is. well, good reviews mean that SOMEONE was excited about the new cd. as for the tour selling out because people wanna hear the old stuff...hmmm, ever hear of a tour called 'jam of the year'? it was a hits tour that went through arenas. most shows that i know of did NOT sell out. now, there was much less press covering it so surely that had something to do with it. the bottom line is, as the charts and reviews and sell out dates will show, people are excited about prince these days. if it was only the org that cared, the record would enter the chart around 100 like the others did. clearly, some people are excited. now, you can twist that around however you want to if it makes you feel clever. it makes no headline to me whether you like the cd (or prince for that matter) or not. these statements, though, just make you look silly because they aren't based on anything realistic. the only real thing they are based on is your opinion. probably end up banking 20 million dollars. However, the days of the number one Prince record are over. Of course, while it’s possible that sometime in the next twenty or so years the man will release a record that will go number 1, he’s not going to hold that spot for too long. The sad truth is that Prince is like the Rolling Stones – people will pay to see him in concert, people respect him, people will continually show props, but most people are not going to pay attention to the new material and buy the record. Regardless of how Prince changes his image and/or music, he will not be able to break free from Purple Rain and the 80’s. The only way Prince could retain his former popular glory would be if young people start to listen to him. And that aint going to happen because he has too many older fans. Most young people (14-21) don’t want to listen to music their parents are jamming with. I hear what your saying but thats just the way it is with musicians who have been around along time.Bowie,Madonna,Jackson are no different.Although still making good music for the most part, how could Madonna recapture her eighties popularity.Or Bowie with Ziggy and Jackson's Billie Jean days.If Hendrix,Morrison or Redding were still with us I'm positive they would be in the same sort of situation.

you are, in fact, hoping that prince will perfectly duplicate a moment in time... from an era that no longer exists??? think of the factors that had to come together to produce the first major wave of popularity. how could it possibly happen again, in exactly the same way? a bizarre thought, and a rather immature one, at that.

Mark my words...this tour will be the #1 tour of 2004 by the time it's all said and done. Prince is making a ton of money this year: sold-out concerts, $35-$50 T-shirts, record sales, back catalog sales. I woul;dn't be surprised if he rakes in $50-$75 million this year!

At the Raleigh show, there was a girl on stage dancing to Kiss, I'm sure she was younger than 22. She didn't even know the words to Kiss, yet she paid $75 to see Prince. When I saw her tell him, "I don't know the words"- I thought to myself - who doesnt know the words to Kiss by now- but then I said, she's part of the "new" audience.
As for appealing to Kids, Prince youthfulness will attract a teen audience- especially with a song like Man in Ur Life; Looks like he will get play on Vh1, MTV- the x factor may be Radio- who has dissed him so far on Musicology. I have yet to hear Musicology or any other song from the CD played on any Pop or R/B station in the Durham/Raleigh, NC area. The road you choose to walk in this life, is a road that leads to the next.....

I always love it when people read shit into the the things you write and then, assuming that you are writing what they just imagined and attributed to you, they go on to criticize something you just said. Am so off base for assuming that most of us want Prince to hold down the number one spot for a few weeks? Of course the Purple Rain days over and so too, if you agree with the initial post, are the days when Prince will hold down the top spot for more than one week if at all. ego tripping out

Let's get back to the thread and if you're going to talk shit please oh please bring that shit my way. I started this mfker. Anyway, I hope Musicology stays constant, that the concert giveaways, if they are counted with store sales, keep the record on the chart. And sure I’m glad P. is healthy and happy and making decent music but I also think P.’s music could benefit from this influx of popularity. I’m not a fan of NEWS, TRC, or Xpectation and P’s more experimental records (Sign, 1999, Black Album, ATWIAD – Note TRC and NEWS are not on my list, these records while a departure for P. are not experimental) all follow, with the exception of 1999, records that sold million +. The last thing I want is a return to the 80’s but I expect more than the dismal TRC, the corny TGE, and, while it’s an improvement, the sterile Musicology. ego tripping out

some people are just such loosers, i hate slipknot, you dont see me on thier fuckin message board baggin their newest collage of noise... let alone slappin up a big banner claimin myself a hater... the reason were all here is cause we like prince now, today... not just back in the day... lets face it, its pretty gay for any of us to be going to message boards of artists anyway... but just imagine how much of a looser you'd have to be to spend your time going to a board of someone you hate... just to make sure you get your sinical biased opinon heard... if there is nothing here for you anymore.. all the new albums suck as you say... then what exactly keeps you coming back? its like some retarted reflex
