"Giveaway" CDs Count as Half a Record? No one can say that a "fair" or accurate Billboard position for Musicolgoy would not include the concert CDs, because some people that would've otherwise bought the new CD in a retail outlet instead will get it at the concert. But, also how to "accurately" count the people who would've never purchased it, but did by attending the concert?
Billboard has some awful odd rules about CDs with multiple discs; depending on the actual length, each single CD counts as a sale; therefore if "Emancipation" is 2 times platinum (2 million) it only sold one third of that amount. So, if the "giveaway" idea catches on (doubtful, but you never know) they might have to invent some new Billboard "rules" for chart position and certification for these. It doesn't make any difference to me how they count them to me, but it is an interesting promotional idea. | |

It's already been confirmed that the CDs given away at concerts WILL be counted as album sales (all concerts after 4/20 will count toward total sales; concerts and theatre showing before 4/20 do not count).
