Prince and Carole King Connection? "If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life" "borrows," or is it, "interpolates," from Carole King the line about being "so vein that you think that this song is about you."
Has Prince ever covered Carole King in concert or acknowledged her? | |

Actually, that would be Carly Simon unless I'm mistaken.
I think it's just kind of an homage to that song- and it's just a single phrase after all (a pretty famous phrase at that). | |

Yeah, he has covered Carole King in concert, sort of. During the second night of Xenophobia Celebration 2002, Prince thanked Shelia E for being a trooper sweating it out at Paisley (it was super hot outside and the air conditioning didn't work and it was hot and sweaty inside) while she and the E Train opened up for Prince.
To thank her he sang "You've Got A Friend," but Prince credited the song to James Taylor. Actually Carole King wrote and performed it first. The cool thing is that the intro to Prince's "You've Got A Friend" is actually "Mr. Slim" -- one of Candy Dulfer's joints from her What does It Take release. | |

Personally, I've always thought the lyrics to this number were a tad bit bad. "you probably think this song is about you"? Well, isn't the song about the person she's singing it to?
