What's the best guitar solos... Being that's it a rainy day today, I just sat around playing some of Prince's live performances and even though I really dig the solo from the Pock N Roll Hall of Fame on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." I put in my tape of the Prince and The Revolution Live show from Syracuse's Carrier Dome in 1985 and I must say that the guitar soloing on "Purple Rain" during this performance is better IMHO. I will love this performance eternally.
What do you think or do you have another solo that stands out? Share! Musicoolgy tour coming to Nashville's Gaylord Entertainment Center on May 6th! 11 days and counting!!!

You're right about that Purple Rain. (Dig the run he does toward the end, right before he knocks over the mic stand -- love the way he mixes modes on that one!)
His solo from D&P from the Special Olympics when the games were held in MPLS the year of that album's release was wonderful, too. Cream from his Arsenio appearance.

I haven't seen the RRHOF performance yet. Is it online anywhere?
Otherwise, I'll say Purple Rain. I was at the Raleigh show a couple of nights ago and shut my eyes during the solo at the end of PR. What an experience! I was envoloped by the music! Nothing compares to it. Yeah, my avatar's copyrighted...but I damn sure paid 'em enough money to use it here!

ditto that per4mance of bambi is off the hook. he just goes in2 this long solo, thats 3 mins long and is maybe, possibly, his greatest solo ever and bambi has the greatest riff EVER amazing

Even though "Bambi" from the undertaker is great, any live perfomance of "Purple Rain" to me is his best. It's P's calling card. That's his signature solo. From the live recording at First Ave in 83 that went on the Purple Rain album to now, damn near 21 years later, it's Prince's top solo. Whenever he plays it, it's his most heartfelt solo of the show. No matter what band line up he has, doesn't matter. If the feeling strikes him, P can play that lead for an hour. It's his emotinal release. If he's angry or feeling good, he'll showcase that in that solo. The Purple Rain solo to Prince is what The Star Spangle Banner was to Hendrix. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I agree that the solo on Joy In Repetition is schweet, but the solos from Eye Hate U and Shhhh are pretty damn good too. The Joy in Repetition solo was actually "composed" and thought out while the latter were probably improvised, but they still kick ass.

Purple Rain is such a perfect song fo soloing over that almost anyone could sould good playing it.
Still I think the album version might be the greatest I can think of. Just heard 1+1+1=3 today and was thinking what a cool solo that is because it sounds so different. Check this song out at:

Also there's one on xpectation (don't know which song, maybe track 6 or 7) where I was surprised as how well he could do a pure old style jazz solo. Check this song out at:

And how about his recent appearance on The Rock 'n Roll hall of Fame? He blew everyone off the stage with his solo during the George Harrison trib "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" number! But I have to say... I realy can't believe what he said in the Rolling Stone article - that he never heard the song before they sent it to him to learn for that night... Come on, The Beatles White Album?!?! And he says Tom Petty's Free Fallin'" as being one of his favorites... Think he's pulling our chains? VOTE....EARLY

thanx U all 4 reminding me how great he is. how about "She's always in my hair" @ Wembley not sure what year; and "U got the look" and "Purple House" in Rave2000 also I would have to say that Purple Rain, and Lovesexy tours is where he showed his most inspired and best guitar efforts. -"If U don't like,

I feel the same exact way, and that's why I never tire of him performing "Purple Rain" because I'm always waiting to see what he's going to do with the solo. I've heard many many versions of this and love 'em all. It's like he can do no wrong with the guitar on this song.
