Wow, tough question since they are both very good at what they do.

I probably would pick Dr. Fink, since as you stated in your original post, he does those funny poses and facial expressions. Renato is great too, but he's more serious.

I'd have to see Renato in scrubs before I decide.

Renato. he seems a bit more versatile. and Prince has incorporated a lot of things into his music since Fink was last in the band.


and while they're both ugly as sin, please... the operating room outfit is tired. it was tired by 1983, let alone 90.

What a silly question. Of course, I'd use Fink over any of his estranged keyboardist. Like Eric Leeds, Fink had a certain artistic chemistry with Prince. I always loved their interactions in concert.

Case in point:

Sometime around Lovesexy/SOTT era, Prince performed in London. They were jammin' on the One. Then Prince pauses and says:

"Dr. Fink, what chu wanna play now?" to which Dr. Fink replied, "I dunno, but what ever I play, it's got to be FUNKAY!" then Prince yells, "AWWWWW SHIIIIITTTTT!!" they began jammin' again! It was a priceless interchange...

Renato, but this kind of debate is always about why isn't it back to Eric and Wendy and Lisa ....

I see where U're coming from. I'd like to base it strictly on muscianship as well, however, showmanship also has a lot to do with it as well. I'm not able to compare the two on musicianship alone because I have not heard Renato play too much, only twice in concert. I think Dr. Fink has A LOT of showmanship, that fool be tearing it up behind those ivorys. Renato don't seem like he's up to much.


I'll say this. I [i]think[i] I would have to go with Renato on Record, not certain, I would have to hear more of him. In concert, I would [b]have[b] to go with Fink. He always cracks me up visually. He just seems a bit more active and entertaining behind the boards.

Although I'll always love Dr. Fink,I have to take Renato. This guys structure and chord progressions are just amazing I mean he totally takes songs to places that you never quite expect them to go IMO.

As far as who to take on tour... Dr. Fink has the quirk, and if Prince was going for more of a stage show with theatrics, etc, he'd probably fit the bill a little better. With the somewhat more serious, almost business-like approach now (everybody wearing suits...), Renato blends in pretty well. They're both very capable musicians though, obviously.
