am I the only one on this site who really doesn't think too much of LOVESEXY

I remember being very and I mean VERY let down when (at age 18) I brought this disc home. Especially after the masterpiece SIGN O THE TIMES. The songwriting was nowhere near as good as say 1999, Parade , or SOTT. And where the hell was his guitar ??? Plus, it was very overproduced. Yet, most Prince fans gush over this disc. I suspect that saying 'Lovesexy is my fave P disc' is just the cool thing to do amongst the diehards. As far as I am concerned, this cd marked the end of an era of IN THE ZONE output from P that spanned from Dirty Mind to SOTT.

Your not the only one that think lovesexy is that good, I think it is his best, SOTT is another great album, I wouldn't agree never in my life that the songwriting is as good as 1999, Parade are better an LOVESEXY, because that would be lying, although it is almost as good as SOTT. Your porabbly right though about many fans just say it is "cool" to say, so I ain't going to argue.

I could easily see why someone would make the claim that LoveSexy is his best record.

I think this has been the major flaw in P's post-SOTT work. He's TOO good a producer now. He should just release the demos of songs ...

I suspect that saying 'Lovesexy is my fave P disc' is just the cool thing to do amongst the diehards.

There's a lot of that going on ...

"I think Musicology is better than SOTT"
"I think Musicology is great"
"I think Cinnamon Girl is better than When Doves Cry"
"I think Dear Mr Man is better than Sign O The Times"

A lot of, what we Brits call, "keeping up with the Joneses".

Lovesexy is the one! It was the only Prince album to make me cry tears of joy at first listen. It feels like the album he wrote just for me -- it defines me in many ways. The very first song I heard off the album was the 12-inch version of "Alphabet Street" (This is not music; this is a trip). I was hooked bad! And "Anna Stesia" is a Master-Peace of all masterpieces. And the song "Lovesexy" is SO fun -- now there's a wonder=full word. And the tour was sincerely one of his best, if not the best.

By the way, Lovesexy isn't my favorite P disc (as you say); it's my 2nd -- right between 1999 and Prince. Now, figure that one out.

You are not alone chrisloppe.

Lovesexy is severely over-rated around here.

BY THE WAY , I saw the Lovesexy show at MSG in New York City and it was amazing but, WHAT PRINCE SHOWS AREN'T??? Alphabet Street was a great song. The 12" is awesome. That said, the album s a whole is mediocre.

Hmm i havent been here very long maybe 2 months, but what to do with lovesexy?? It was a let down after sott, but what wouldnt have been. Alphabet street great single and still a great song and really one of the only prince videos i liked, hes actually doing something other than performing. Enjoyed Dance On and am still a huge fan of I wish U heaven. But other than that it just didnt gel with me. Thought Glam Slam was kinda too loopy, positivity was a bit too over the top and hundaselllisassdfdo ? was just a trip i had already taken with Around the World in a Day. I know everyone thinks that this was his big statement record. All about love and god and goodness, but it was the first time i scratched my head and thought, "Yeah thats all nice and stuff but where did my little raunchy wicked man that i enjoy so much go?"

I really like Lovesexy but it did take some time for me to warm to it,but I now dont think theres a bad track on it and I really like Alphabet Street,Lovesexy,Anna Stesia,Dance On,Glam slam. It very much feels like an album rather than a collection of songs and that is another reason I think its great. IMO The Gold Experience is the most overated on this site but I aint going to doubt people like it.

Did´n´t like it much at the time, but it has grown to be my favourite Prince-album. That says it all. The title-track has everything that makes Princes music so special.

Lovesexy wasn't that good to me, either. Songwriting was mostly cheesy when you think about it. It had a good spirit, but I thought the overall execution was ..bleh. Same with grafitti bridge with the exception of "Joy in Repitition" "? of U" and "Thieves in the Temple".

And yet ur sig is Glam Slam...1st song that grabbed me was Anna Stesia (knowing the back story behind that, and after hearing Black Album, glad he did LoveSexy...cuz one thing that is Prince is melody.). I personally cannot have one album that's the best...especially because of the b-sides! Arguing is a staple in Princedom. I went to Glam Slam LA...can't stand that song and never have been able to. Same with Grafitti Bridge (tried to make myself like it because of Clare). And yet...LoveSexy was cool because he put his little naked behind on the cover with the hair he was sporting on the "Prince" album...where they put a body stocking on him riding on a unicorn.

Lovesexy is where he was at. AnnaStesia is incredible though. There you do hear his Santana influence...and his growing.

I forgot about Dance On! Never dug it.

At the time, the CD was one continuous loop if you remember. Alphabet Street was bomb and he was PHOYNE. Love his hair. Anna Stesia, as I said before, was the reason he junked the Black Album. I wish u heaven...love it...who else could get away with "la la la la la la" .

Or, "come bathe with me" great fun at Six Flags on cid...great video for that too long time ago.

OK, y u gotta make me be so old! Lovesexy was daring ...because he said, I don't like the Black Album...but u r right. The Black Album was a bit too ahead for the fans and for the time. I only like a few songs on there cuz there was jazz, but not too melodic (which reminded me personally of a show my moms used to make me watch when I was 3-4 on ch 52 in L.A....jazz hour or something). Lovesexy's bass is slammin'. Eye No also. But I LOVE Alphabet St (12" too - shoulda kept Cat and neva got Tony) was cool too. Plus he had his daddy's thunderbird in it! And that Bambi era hair. Yummm

Gold was cool for Billy Jack B!tch...for the beat...for seeing him do it on the Essence awards (sexy MF)...and for sampling Fishbone....one of the best songs they EVER did (Lying Ass Bitch)

Gold was one of those that didn't move me or moved me the wrong way. I was glad he was striking out on his "own". And so, like a with a child or family member I wanted to make it work. BJB was bomb tho...oh so Funkadelic. Can't remember the others tho...

The Diamonds & Pearls was cool too ('dat hair tho)...who else could straight CROON, "Damn U"? Sexy MF (even with the scream nowadays) Daddy Pop is REAL bomb...make ya hurt yaself..Thunder! And the version he wrote for the Joffrey Ballet to perform. Man oh man.

But I guess all this rambling is me not dealing with the fact that, in 1988 when I saw the LoveSexy tour in 1988, I was 20 years old and had been listening to Prince since 1977-78. So on one hand I hear what you are saying...I picked and teased out what I wanted because I wanted a new album dangit! On the other hand I just wanted some Prince...knowing he was going to tour behind this cuz he dissed us w/ATWIAD & Parade.

Prince, I'm sure Barry White joins me in saying, "sho u right"...got many generations luvin' u!

'Lovesexy' is a classic Prince album. It's brilliant from beginning to end.Prince once described it as a "mind trip, like a psychedelic movie" and that's the way I've always listened to it.It takes you on a wild journey through heaven and hell."Anna Stesia" is one of the most amazing songs Prince has ever done, and the title track just blows my mind (why wasn't it released as single?!).In 1988/89,I LIVED this album, playing it everyday for months.

Why the hell didnt I mention I Wish You Heaven coz I funkin luv it. I think most people would agree that Anna Stesia and I Wish You Heaven are 2 of P's best songs then Alphabet Street and Lovesexy are both amazing,I think if the album only had those four songs and the rest were shit it would still be a good album as it is the rest are all good songs which IMO makes it a classic.
I also must add that I think that the Lovesexy Vids help you visualise more when you listen to the album, to me Lovesexy creates it own kinda world. cool

Lovesexy is the best Prince Album ever... if nothing else, for personal reasons. If someone came to my house and confiscated all my Prince stuff... I would fight them once they touched Lovesexy.

Spunky

For me Lovesexy is one long hypnotic trip, when 2 R in Love, heaven - sheer bliss, I hope heaven is as beautiful, God is love, love is God - so simple so deeply profound and spiritual. These few simple words have shape my personal philosophy and outlook on life. Listen to the record at full volume in a dimly lit room. Maybe then you might get it.

I like Lovesexy, but it doesn't come close to the brilliance of 1999 to SOTTs. I agree it was over-produced. I absolutely love Anna Stesia, Alphabet St, Dance On, and When 2 R in Love...but the rest is simply mediocre imo. The song Lovesexy is a rambling mess.

I think "LoVeSeXy" is the best live show i have ever seen, better in my eyes than SOTT.
when i first saw it , i didn;t think much, but watching it over and over again, it is amazing, and that version of purple rain where it looks like Prince is about 2 cry, it just the best thing ever!!!

this is the best Live video i own, its great !!!!!

I thought Lovesexy outsold past prince albums in the European market....

I have all kinds of magazines and articles form England from 1988-89 that seemed to indicate that Lovesexy was a big hit over there as an album.... I guess someone needs to check a chart archive for the UK and for Europe.
