Prince's restrained dancing (no splits)

Anybody know why Prince doesn't dance like he used to anymore? I saw him last night in Cincinnati. I have recently noticed that he doesn't even do the splits anymore-- something he did on everything but ballads! Did I hear that he injured his leg a few years back? Must have been quite a blow to him.

While I doubt he can do them as well as he used to be able to (I'm mean, he's 45... But if he proves me wrong when he goes to Boston, that's cool, too), he's been talking about putting more of a focus on the music lately, and that probably plays a bit into his not doing the splits anymore.

He still has the moves, in some somewhat subtle ways, though. "Restrained" or not, watching him at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction performance, his dancing was flawless.

And it would be a pity of he did one and ripped the pants of the kickin' suits he seems to have taken a liking to;)

well, you know, he fell in atlantic city back in 98/99 while he was touring with chaka and larry. then he fell on the hit n' run tour in 2001. when was the last time he jumped off of a piano? i know how silly that sounds but, really, he used to do stuff like that all the time. and i'm not talking about ten years ago, either. i saw him back in 99 and he was jumping and dancing and doing the splits like crazy. maybe after those two falls he just feels like he's too old to be doing that. better to look great doing what you're doing than to keep falling and have people making suggestive comments about if you can still handle it.

Don't get it wrong-he's still movin' and dancin' funky. He just isn't doing those wildman splits anymore.

Dont matter all that much anyway. Time has pretty much claimed his dancing days and aslong as he keeps the music rockin' I'LL be the one doing all the dancing.

I can tell you form experience. I don't dance like I used to when I was 20 or 21(I'm only 27) I tore a hamstring, have some knee problems and stuff(I was told I have the knees of a 50 year old, too much basketball), and I have had to calm down. I used to mess around and do splits and stuff, I won't even think about it now, cause it just hurts.

He's 45, the legs aren't what they used to.

I will never understand why so many people post threads wondering or asking if he can still do the splits...?!
Who cares.....if you want to see someone do the splits, go watch gymnastics.
He can still play and sing his a$$ off.
That's all I care about.

No matter how cool the splits...that don't define him anyways. One or a few missing dance tricks won't fail a Prince live show.

At some point one would hope that he could maintain his dignity as he ages and seeing old folks trying to do the splits is plain scary.

I'll bet he can still do it all. But he has got to look to the future. Gotta a lotta shows to do just this summer alone.
But I just know he can still do it all!!!
once u get to 45 you will see that it does not feel that old, but you might need to pace[/i] yourself a bit.

Hehe...well said. I look forward to watching him play and sing his a** off for another 25 years, and then some. I'm very active but in a lot of ways I've learned to take it easy, in the interest of my long term health and mobility (and I'm not yet 38)...maybe he's looking at it the same way. JMHO.

Look he's still got it. He probably just doesn't feel like doing splits anymore, plus he isn't wearing much of those nut hugging skin tight spandex outfits that complimented those splits. Ya'll try doing splits in baggy suits, i don't think u would want to get them dirty either.

I believe he can still do it though. He's got more than we think.

Look at MJ and that special he had in 2001, it looked as if it was a ghost trying to imitate him, he can't even move half as fast as he could in 1991.

But then again, Prince does this all time, he's used to performing, dancing etc.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

What I think is this...His new songs don't really call for splits. The Purple Rain and Parade times or even Sign songs were more for the splits. I think Prince can still do all that just not doing them.

Perhaps he wants 2 jazz up his routine? wink Ain't nothin' wrong in that. And the "old" part in P not doin' the splits is crazy....he's hardly obese or unfit, and there have been many others who were older than him doing that sort of thing...JB 2 name 1..
