ONE-DAY SALES: MARIO WINANS, PRINCE STIR THINGS UP from hitsdaildouble.com Even They dont seem to know if the concert give=aways count
----- ONE-DAY SALES: MARIO WINANS, PRINCE STIR THINGS UP New Releases Strong Out of the Box, But Are They Big Enough to Unseat Usher? April 21, 2004 Two new releases hitting the street yesterday are sure to stir up the album chart’s upper reaches next week: Mario Winans’ Hurt No More (Bad Boy/Universal) and Prince’s Musicology (Columbia). According to early reports from national accounts, the Winans album appears headed for first-week sales of around 200k or just shy of it. The Prince album is also selling strongly, but a brewing controversy over how album giveaways (or sales bundled with concert tickets, depending whom you ask) will be counted makes projecting his first-week figure difficult. Without the giveaways, reports indicate Prince’s sales look markedly behind Winans. But if the albums distributed at the Purple One’s concerts are factored in, he could come closer to the Winans figure. The question then is whether sales at or near 200k will be enough to wrest #1 from LaFace/ZLG's Usher, who has owned the top chart berth for four weeks running. This week, Usher notched nearly 286k, falling off 37% from the previous week’s figure. If his sales taper similarly in the days ahead, Winans (and potentially Prince) could give him a serious challenge. Also among yesterday’s strongest-performing releases is Ghostface’s The Pretty Toney Album (Def Jam), which is on track to sell 70-80k for the week. Could a big weekend nudge it closer to 100k? Stay tuned. | |

There will be a lot of controversy IF they include the give-away sales. | |

I hope they're not figured in.... | |

>>>But if the albums distributed at the Purple One’s concerts are factored in, he could come closer to the Winans figure. <<<
I have news for them , he has distributed about 150,000-175,000 at his shows so far. What has he done 14 shows at say 12,000 per show? That plus his actual sales would put him past Winans and Usher next week. So basicly it looks like he's # 3 without concert give-aways and # 1 with . Leave it to the man to stir up the system. | |

But they can ONLY count giveaways that occur during this week...not from weeks past. So that'll cut down the number of CDs that would/could count towards his first week total sales. Still, I don't agree that they should be counted...Prince will probably sell something like 50,000-80,000 his first week, I assume...if he hits above 100,000, I'll be damn impressed. | |

Lemme revise my prediction..lol...he'll sell 80,000-100,000 his first week...just saw that Musicology is #2 on Amazon.com.. | |

And what's the big deal about Mario Winans? Why do people care about this guy? | |

"could come closer"?!?! He'd far surpass Winans if this was the case, which I hope it isn't. Everything in life should be legit; though, we know others get away with it. Don't quote me tho, cuz I ain't saying... edit: snip [This message was edited Wed Apr 21 12:37:08 2004 by Jasziah] | |

That's the question of the week. I've seen the video. Dude should have a nicer voice to go with the Winans name. | |

I actually hope the "giveaways" aren't counted. That way when Prince goes #1 and he will, none of the crybaby Prince haters can complain about him cheating and not earning it on his own merit or some mess like that. | |

But is the "giveaway" really cheating per se, or is it actually "beating the system"! | |

Leave it to the man to stir up the system. it's more than that - remember, he gave them away at the simulcast too - add another 100k or so for that. And why shouldn't they be factored in? They are priced into the show. Why should spending $9.95 for an album count more than spending $75 for an album and a concert? If they are factored in, it should guarantee Prince is in the top 10 for months. | |

You know what's really sad about that Mario Wynans shit??? Nothing about it original. Just sampled music. The five reasons why it's doing well:
1. They play it on the radio every fucking 4 minutes...never hear Musicology. 2. They play the video every 2 minutes on fucking BET 3. He got a hot-ass body. 4. Puffy is the producer and promoter of the project. 5. He's a goddam Winans! These are the SAME reasons why I want Prince do blow his ass out the water. I am praying that Prince will do well next week!!! | |

The real question is why is a Winans doing R&B? Not gospel...Does Pop Winans approve? | |

And speaking of the Winans, just how many of them are there anyway? Seems like there's a new one releasing a gospel CD every other month! If they start going R&B, they're going to flood the market! Proud member of the Naked Orgers Club | |

I don't think counting the giveaways is illegitimate or anything like that. I say lets put Prince back on top of the charts where he's supposed 2 be. The Mothership Connection... and, for the record, what is so fucking special about Winans in the first place? the guys an average singer, singing a lame song, with a canned beat thats been sampled so many times its disgusting. why people give a flying fuck about this little dancing marionet of Puff Daddy's is absolutely incomprehensible.
