I remember being very and I mean VERY let down when (at age 18) I brought this disc home. Especially after the masterpiece SIGN O THE TIMES. The songwriting was nowhere near as good as say 1999, Parade , or SOTT. And where the hell was his guitar ??? Plus, it was very overproduced. Yet, most Prince fans gush over this disc. I suspect that saying 'Lovesexy is my fave P disc' is just the cool thing to do amongst the diehards. As far as I am concerned, this cd marked the end of an era of IN THE ZONE output from P that spanned from Dirty Mind to SOTT.

"Prince gonna take U high(read LOVESEXY) again!"

I'm in total agreement with you - Lovesexy was the point where things began to nosedive in terms of quality. To my ears, there's only one really well written song on it (Alphabet Street) and a lot of rather aimless, bland noodling. His songwriting hit a peak on SOTT, but he's never come close to it since. The guy was capable of writing classic pop singles, but he settled on lazy funk jams. yawn...

Also, while I know there are fans that love the lyrics on this album, I really think they seem naive, juvenile (not that I'd want Prince to be really mature or anything...) and slightly insane.

Your not the only one that think lovesexy is that good, I think it is his best, SOTT is another great album, I wouldn't agree never in my life that the songwriting is as good as 1999, Parade are better an LOVESEXY, because that would be lying, although it is almost as good as SOTT. Your porabbly right though about many fans just say it is "cool" to say, so I ain't going to argue.

And yet ur sig is Glam Slam...1st song that grabbed me was Anna Stesia (knowing the back story behind that, and after hearing Black Album, glad he did LoveSexy...cuz one thing that is Prince is melody.). I personally cannot have one album that's the best...especially because of the b-sides! Arguing is a staple in Princedom. I went to Glam Slam LA...can't stand that song and never have been able to. Same with Grafitti Bridge (tried to make myself like it because of Clare). And yet...LoveSexy was cool because he put his little naked behind on the cover with the hair he was sporting on the "Prince" album...where they put a body stocking on him riding on a unicorn.

Lovesexy is where he was at. AnnaStesia is incredible though. There you do hear his Santana influence...and his growing.

I should have said it differently, what I mean is that the songwriting of 1999, Parade is not as good as Lovesexy, and I'd never agree to that.

Wow, this "LoveSexy'' debate will never die. Somebody might have to write an article or a book on this for us diehards examining this. I have to admit, I don't quite understand this undying love for this particular project above all others. I like many songs on it, but I'll take "The Rainbow Children'' over "LoveSexy'' any day.
And I'm not a JW. Go figga. wink

...when I first got it, for some reason, I just skimmed right through it after much talk about it, (actually when I first started visiting this site), and didn't play it again for a while, but then one day I just let it play and REALLY listened to it, and I've been touched ever since, and for those who feel the same way about Lovesexy know what I'm talking about. But even until this day and on & on, 'Lovesexy is the one'!!!. & I'm one of those who has Rainbow Children and haven't heard all of Musicology, on the same list.

Lovesexy is overrated by alot of folks here, imo. Granted it does have one of his best songs ever, Anna Stesia, and a couple of really nice tunes in Alphabet St. and eye Wish U Heaven. But other than that, it's a'ight.

The Main reason Y so many Prince fans on this site--Love---LOVESEXY so much is because of there age. Most of u were in your late teens when this lp came out!It was your high school years-lots of great times lots of great happens!
The early years of Prince were MUCH more raw and dark!
Lovesexy is a great lp but not the END all END---I saw the tour 12 times,Many of the people that were at the shows did not know what was going on?BOBGEORGE?BLACK album?
We all use to call Lovesexy the beige Album---because compare to the Black Album is was TO SAFE!
LOVESEXY is what it IS!!!One of many great Albums that Prince made for all of us!!
True Fans know the TRUE masterpiece---Sign 0 the times----END OF STORY! razz

I guess I'm a sucka for concept albums because I never really caught on to the concept of Sign O' The Times, tho I loved almost all of the songs. But Lovesexy is a total trip all the way thru -- with the same warm-fuzzy vibe during the whole ride. That's another reason I love it.
