MUSICOLOGY isn't the album we expected after all the hype (GRAMMY, Hall of Fame, Tour).

What makes it better tahn "RAVE" or "EMANCIPATION"?

For me, nothing:

1.) It's too short (47min)
2.) The Drum Machine of the Funk songs sounds like on "NEWPOWERSOUL" and "EMANCIPATION"
3.) The rock songs sounds like on "CHAOS"
4.) The Lynn-Drum-Song (What Do U Want Me 2 Do?) is worse than the better songs from "RAVE".
5.) Call My Name) sounds like "Dark"

What makes it better...thats something Ive asked myself because I do like it better than Rave and Emancipation.

I think it has that "Prince sound" to it more than the other albums - I know Prince doesnt have a definite sound but there is something about it that reminds you of when you could pick his trax out of a playlist just by the feel of them.

For too long he was a trend setter and then, for years he tried to keep up with others (after D&P, but now I think teh music scene is in a place that he isnt interested in so he doesnt have to make his music sound any particular way...so he's gone back to his own sound

I'm enjoying Musicology, but to be honest I think Emancipation is better. Sure, there's at least a whole disc worth of tracks I skip, but there are some absolute gems on there.
Time will tell for me. If I'm still listening to Musicology in 8 years time, it will be doing well. But I know I'll still be listening to Emancipation then.
However, I can guarantee I'll be listening to the acoustic version of Reflection from the Tavis Smiley show till I'm old and grey. Sheer bliss.

It doesn't sound as "synthetic" as "EMANCIPATION" or "RAVE", "MUSICOLOGY" brings back vintage PRINCE 2 a new, young audience that ain't never seen the man do his thang.

I love it! Hits or no hits, "MUSICOLOGY" is superb.

There is no point in starting another new thread just because you have a personal opinion on the new album that everybody is talking about anyway - yet you also naively wish everybody will agree with you just because you happen to also possess some arbitrary observations you've made concerning the record.
