among the tightest is when the waitress sarcastically asks who's payin for this morris? ...when jerome does his head jive as morris is clownin brenda and susan for messin up the dance steps... when prince is goin 2 confront his father but ends up hearin him play 4 the 1st time in years, then turns that in2 a guitar solo.... when he's goin back 2 the stage and appalonia gives him that kiss... and the most poignant moment i'll never 4get.... right after morris walks by and jokes "how's the family?" he shows a rare human side when he bows his head and breathes a sigh 4 prince's tragedy....

I watched this again a few years back and... especially compared to my memory of worshipping the movie so much in the adolescent years ... that it was pretty bad, except for the performance scenes.

But you all are making me want to check it out again.

Last night I saw 8 Mile - as someone mentioned recently, same story, down to the random betraying girlfriend. Not far off Saturday Night Fever either. 8 Mile seemed so much more restrained, real quality filmmaking involved.
