I don't want him to say Sex in the City

I know this sounds like one of those whiny threads, but I like Kiss the way it is.

Prince....

don't conform.

It's You Don't Have to Watch Dynasty.

Sex in the City sounds so lame.

Anyone agree.

I think it sounds kinda lame, too. I cringe every time I hear him sing it.

Yeah, Dynasty is old news, but it messes up the vibe of the song when he pauses to say "sex in the city". It just seems like he is trying to get a response from the crowd.

Dynasty is too fucking old - half the people @ the show probably don't even remember that show lol

He's gotta update it, I just don't think S&TC is a good fit in the song b/c of the 2 extra syllables. Just takes too long to say & the flow is lost unless he launches right into it & rushes part of it. And like 319 said, the pause seems to be for audience reaction which is lame. Hell, maybe 4 years ago that would have drawn cheers but that shit's off the air too! lol

I'm not sure what show I would have substitute Dynasty though, but I wish he'd skipped past Sex.

And Vina, that show rocked!!! razz

I like the way he croons "DYYYYNASTY", not the way he deadpans "....Sex and the City".

But if I'm getting the chance to hear him sing it in whatEVER configuration, I really don't give a crap either way.

I agree with the syllable thing. It's kinda like when one of your favorite artists does a promo for a radio station using that station's call letters and some fit and some just sound wrong. But I was glad he was trying to update and stay current (however he could have kept it cuz Joan Collins and Morgan Fairchild are both doing Old Navy commercials...and I'm sure whichever cable channel is running it would have been thrilled. They even have a Dallas ringtone for cell phones!)

But don't fool yourself: when he used Dynasty tghat was also for the audience, cuz people could RELATE ... they were the most mahvelous bitches, dahling. Plus they had the 1st black woman on the prime time soaps: Diahann Carroll (I can already hear: who?) And then Billy Dee too. That made my momma watch!

But ya know, I got over the syllable thing REAL quick...I was at a Prince show on opening night!!!!

You know what? Diahann Caroll was John Forsythe's half-sister in the show, Dominique Devereaux. They had the same father. I think people forget that the Carringtons were an inter-racial family. I can honestly only think of a handful of programmes which have depicted constant inter-racial relationships since. By constant, I mean committed relationships - not one-night stands:

Six Feet Under - David and Keith;
Absolutely Fabulous - Saffron, John and their (un-named) baby.

There's probably more, but that's all I can think of.

Not exactly,I know who she is. & like I said b4(I wuzn't around the majority of the show's years). I recognize her from 'A Different World' she plays as Whitley's mother,'The 5 Heartbeats' & few othas. But 1st thing that came in my mind wuz 'ADW'(that's my show!!!! woot!) On VH1 when they showed 'ILT80s'(I think the 1981 show) they talked about it even shown a scene when she smacked this woman down & they got 2 fightin',that wuz funny. lol

I don't like the Sex in the City line either. That show is over now. How about using The Sopranos or The Aprentice?

FutureShock

Prince explained all of this very well in a recent interview when he said that at one time the TV show "Dynasty" was very risque and considered by many to be "over the top" in terms of pushing the envelope of what could be shown on TV. But now, if we were to look at Dynasty it would be like watching the Brady Bunch... or something like that.

Well, if that is how Prince feels, then obviously the use of the show Dynasty in the song won't get his point accross as far as the song Kiss is concerned, so it seems he chose a show that by today's standards is pushing the envelope (even though Sex in The City is only available on cable). The point is that using "Dynasty" in the song just doesn't drive the point home anymore. Now is Sex in The City a good fit? I dunno... but Dynasty just doesn't work anymore. As far as Prince is concerned, he might as well be singing "you don't have to watch 'the Brady Bunch' to have an attitude".

I think he should sing, "You don't have to watch hardcore gay porno to have an attitude..."

Yes...at the Aussie shows he used both 'SITC' and "Queer Eye' and it really worked and got a lot of laughs....

It really shows his sense of humour...

I guess some people will ALWAYS find something to bitch about! I'm waiting for the 'I don't like the lights in his shoes' thread smile

Whoa!

Some of you have serious issues.

It was just a comment. I remember Dynasty. Why change it? To have relevance? How conformist.

ZZZZZzzzzz

So from now on, I'll remember to just post nice things about Prince, otherwise I'll be chastized for having my own opinion. lol
