Prince on drums

Does anyone else love it when Prince plays the drums? I've been tempted to buy the questionable SOTT dvd that's floating around just so I can easily get to the part where Prince is playing drums. The look he gets on his face when he really gets going!!!! Priceless!!!

Imagine then my disbelief when the fabulous drum rotation at the beginning of the Las Vegas dvd was CUT OUT!!!

Prince probably wouldn't dig it, but I could watch him play drums ALL DAY!!!
I'm firmly planted in denial

Prince got up and played the drums for an all-too-short period in the 'soundcheck' on the Saturday Hammersmith Apollo date of the One Nite Alone tour.

Prince is a cool drummer...Tamborine is proof of that

I love it on SOTT, when he looks like a child playing a grown up drumkit...

cool

He played drums at the Las Vegas show? eek

It's a damn shame they slaughtered the hell outta that concert in the editing room...it sounds like it might have been legendary. Now we'll never know.

Loved him on the drums in the "America" video. That is my favorite video by him. Oh how I would love to see that entire show he performed there in France. I know it has to exist somewhere.

you know that is right.

i still have the original video tape when they premiered that vid on MTV (no lie...i actually have M2 on in the background and they are actually playing the Musicology vid right NOW!)

---anyways...that version of America is INCREDIBLE!!!

especially because that was the 1st time most of us saw him on the drums (& him throwing wax into the audience is cool too.)

...because this is the Musicology tour, i was hoping that he would take on the drums at some point during the set. oh well...not yet.
but, the acoustic-guitar portion definitly makes amends wink

Yeah! Prince is a GREAT drummer...I love to watch him play, too. I think his drumming informs his compositional style---especially in the early days, he would use a lot of beats with incorporated fills or other interesting rhythmic flourishes. He's my favorite drummer, by far.

Blueangel, the opening to the show was Prince on the drums with blue, green and white lights on him just wailing away. Then, Sheila E. spins in and they switch up without missing a beat. She plays for a bit, then John B. spins in and they switch up without missing a beat.

It was sssooooo cooooolllll!!!!

This is the first time I've ever thought to myself: "what the bloody hell is Prince wearing?" (in that first picture.)

And why is Bobby Z. staring at Prince's ass? giggle

I really missed him on piano this time too. So people say"Yea but we get that cool acoustic set." I wanted both. Skip all the Greatest Hits Medley at the beginning, or cut it down anyway. He underestimates the casual listener from Purple Rain days. He broke out into a long version of THE RIDE in OK CITY and I know the casual fan doesn't know that, but everyone loved it!!! Not all those people know "Sometimes It Snows In April" but he did that nice and slow and sad and everyone loved that. Right now he can do no wrong it seems. So I wish he would drop this Hits thing that he is trying to do to please everyone.
