Is Prince getting us ready for the return of the "Dirty" Mind?

Lyric from "Dear Mr. Man": Who told me, Mr. Man, that working around the clock will buy me a big house in the hood cigarette ass on every block.

You cannot say this word on Prince's official website but here he is saying it on an official release. Could this be a small step towards Prince freely using language as a tool of expression instead of allowing the censoring of language to be a tool of oppression of ideas?

There is absolutely nothing profane in the way he used the word "ass", but as recent as the Rainbow Children you know there was no way he was using this word, even in a clear and clean context. Context is everything and it was this point that was completely lost on Prince when he refused to use foul language.

Welcome back Mr. Man woot!

Yeah, that would be "cigarette ADS"...and as long as he's thanking "the most high Jehovah" at awards shows and talking about "nobody wants to see old skin", I wouldn't be holding my breath for the return of the bikini briefs and flasher coats anytime soon...

Why don't people ever look at the complete picture with Prince's lyrics? Use your fucking brain and think about what he is trying to SAY for once instead of just making shit up like 'cigarette ass'. What the hell would 'cigarette ass' mean? Have you ever heard this phrase before? Would it make any sense in the context of what he is talking about in Dear Mr Man? Listen to it and understand! He says:

"Who told me, Mr. Man?
That working 'round the clock
Would buy me a big house in the hood - cigarette ads on every block!

Who told me, Mr. Man, that Eye got a right 2 moan?
How about the big old hole in the ozone?"

He is talking about the System and what it can't do for its citizens. The irony to working around the clock to buy a house is that every block in the hood is filled with cigarette ads, something he clearly doesn't desire in his neighborhood. C'mon people, we all know how Prince writes after following him for so many years - he always uses the poetic devices of opposites and ironies; 'this' negated by 'that' so to speak...it should be simple to figure out his lyrics at this point.

I know that 'fingasnapz is going to give me the smack down for the tone of this post and I'll probably get the Lock, but this is such my pet peeve about Prince and the misinformation about his work, I just want to scream!

Funny I caught this line immediately...

It's ADS. I used to do research at a telemarketing firm...there was this study of Black Smokers and basically all they wanted to know was your ZIP and the brand you smoked to see where to put the billboards. Same is done with Alcohol.

I know you're angry over the fact that you lost the debate over the correct lyrics to Tamvborine.....but I digress biggrin

Cigarette ass = Cigarette BUTT. It's not a huge leap in lyrical interpretation dude.

Do you think it could be ash as in cigarette ashes. That is what I thought I heard. It will be nice when we finally get the official lyrics but the guessing game is still kind of fun!

Well, being that the last time I made a large leap someone posted images of official WB lyric sheets that confirmed what I was saying, I feel comfortable in my interpretation skills biggrin

And those 'lyric sheets' came from a third party transcription company - not the album Prince released. You were wrong about the 'ass' lyric....still feel comfortable?

LOL! Regardless of it being a third party transcription company, it was still written proof that I wasn't the only one who interpreted the lyric like I did. biggrin
