If it's an engineering mistake, then it's one of those "happy mistakes" like the distorted vocal track on Dorothy Parker.
The last 60 seconds of this cut (and indeed, the whole song) confirms for me once and for all that genius never dies. SO goddamn funky. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

This is the kind of shit I wish would go on for 5 more minutes at least. I LOVE this sound. I have always told my friends the time I really really like Prince is when he goes off like that for hours...long funky grooves are nirvana.
