Thought on "The Dance" anyone??? Those of you who have downloaded The Chocolate Invasion...what do you think of "The Dance"?
Besides being one of the saddest songs he's every written, anyone else think this should have been on an album? I think it would make a great single! Just curious what everyone else thinks!

mmmm... i've only listened to it once, but it was nice enough. i don't know about it being a great single. it's a bit tuneless for that. i do like it though. i can hear reminders of "Journey 2 The Center Of Ur Heart" in the background.

I must say that when I first listened to the whole Chocolate Invasion album on headphones, this song really shone above the rest. I put the track on repeat a couple more times just to let it sink in.
It's a beautiful, if somewhat melancholy tune with a superb structure and it would have fitted in nicely on the Musicology album. One of his best for a while. Anybody who's in two minds about downloading this album because they've already got the tracks, believe me, it's worth the money just to hear this song (Oh, and the brilliant sound quality of the songs and the great way they flow together as an album, rather than just a collection of tunes). Ah, it's great being a Prince fan right now.

It's a sad break-up song, and I like that. With the dark, minor chords and drum beat behind it, it sort of reminds me of "Dance With the Devil." I think it's a pretty good song. I'm surprised something like this isn't on "Musicology." Maybe because it's dark and sad he didn't want to put it on the CD, which is essentially upbeat.
Lyrics: I don't want to give you my love 'Cause I don't want to lose my mind I don't want to give you my love 'Cause if I do it's goin' to be the last time I never want to feel this way again If I can't be your lover I don't want to be your friend No... I don't want to be friends No... I don't want to hold your hand 'Cause I just want to follow you everywhere I don't want to see you dance 'Cause I don't even really want to take the chance Falling in love, baby If you ever said you beautiful words to me If I want to be your fantasy Yes... I want to dance Yes... I don't want to give you my love I don't want to go too fast 'Cause if I do you just might stay I guess I have a lonely dance The lover that I feel this way (???) I never want to feel this way again If I can't be your lover I don't want to be your friend No... I don't want to be friends No... I just want this to end

I think the only thing "The Dance" has in common with anything from Emancipation is that it has chintzy drum programming, which is easily ignored when listening to this beautiful song. To me, it's somewhere between "Beautiful Strange" and something from the ONA piano album. Very dark, very brooding, really nice melodies. I'm glad I downloaded TCI for this song, especially if the buzzing is true about some of the other songs being alternate versions (I haven't heard the other stuff yet).

i don't think its The lover that I feel this way (???) but perhaps
"The longer that i'll feel this way" or "The longer that i feel this way" I'll have to listen to it again on the way home to be sure

I was a bit cool on it the first time i heard it. Thought it a tad boring.
But it's a really great song, very melancholy, and the melody gets a foothold in your brain after a while.

This song brings it back. This song speaks to me. It touches the emotions I felt before I married my girl and after I did. Thank you for this. Thank you Prince.
I don't think it's a break up song. I feel it's a romantic song about the give and take of a courtship and the emotions that go along with it. That's what I feel when I hear it. I really love the song. Along with U Make My Sunshine. Which is another song. That I feel has the same vibe. Both beautiful great songs. [This message was edited Tue Apr 6 0:29:18 2004 by July]

Ah, it's great being a Prince fan right now. I agree with above comment about whether or not to download TCI even when you have the tracks. First of all I had all the tracks except "the dance" and at first I had no interest in obtaining them again because quite frankly I didn't think much of some the tracks. "High" for example. But after reading comments about the sound quality improvements and reworking of some of the tunes I was intrigued. Well I downloaded them last night and I was surprised how much I enjoyed TCI. And to address the original topic of this thread "The Dance" is quite nice. Mellow, dark and odd. Overall TCI sound improvments are incredible. It flows nice and feels like a proper album. True P fans will dig it. Except maybe "High" Now the dabate whether to download Slaughterhouse?!? Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

it can be a pain in the ass can't it? keep trying! Try http://www.musicmatch.com Their jukebox burns CDs and doesn't seem to care about licenses. (Or at least it burned Musicology without looking for any, and I wasn't even online at the time) And it does disc-at-once.
