Fuckin'-A!
This album is so special to me. We were born on the same day: April 7, 1978. I can't believe this album gets so little respect. It's one of my all-time favorites. The tape never leaves my car. No matter what kind of day I'm having, I can pop it in and within minutes I have a huge smile on my face, singing, "What more do I have to say? I really wanna play in your.....rivaaaaa!" and bouncing in my seat. "Soft and Wet" still gets to me - how can you not get chills when he sings "Tell me that you feel the same way I do" and then drops that deep voice on you for just a split second: "Tell me that you love me, girl!" I do, I do! "Crazy You" - One of the sweetest songs ever. "Just As Long As We're Together" is pure happiness and fun. Remember when you were young and in love and you truly believed that all you needed was that person by your side, and you would do absolutely anything in this world for them? I'll get the music, baby, you bring the wine! I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Baby" is still his best Stylistics impression to date. The voice, the voice! It's buttah. When "My Love Is Forever" comes on, I get that on my face again, I just can't help it. "You are the only thing that keeps me going, you are the only thing that keeps my love alive" - you can't help singing along and getting all happy! "So Blue" sounds so intimate to me. I feel like his voice and the guitar are right in my ear. And when he sings, "Oh, baby, don't'cha know, baby don't'cha know..." the voice! again! I have to rewind it every time. And last but certainly not least, the magnificent, the incredible, "I'm Yours"!! That delicious, tantalizing taste of the guitar-god to come. (all over your thighs) This song kicks so much ass, so much ass. Happy Birthday, For You! My twin, my friend, the one that started it all. Bow down, muthafuckas! The Normal Whores Club

I've got a cd copy here at work. Haven't played it in a few months, so I think I'll at least give "My Love Is Forever" a spin.

I've never been a big fan of this album but it set the little guy in motion so it deserves props for that alone. It's pleasant enough... just a little bland to my ears. Unfortunately I can't give it a spin as both my CD players are fucked and it's not an album I've transferred to mini-disc.
Dansa, I think you should sing the whole album to me. s edit. [This message was edited Wed Apr 7 10:07:20 2004 by Cloudbuster]

My Love Is Forever, Baby and Just As Long As We're Together are my favorite cuts!!! I love vintage Prince; he was one of the first REAL alternative acts who created a special blend of rock, punk, r&b, country, jazz, folk, blues and gospel...often in the same song!! Wow, that man is awesome.

I'm only worshiping cause the mistress told me to...
...seriously though, I've always thought For You was underrated slightly. Crazy You and I'm Yours are probably two of my fave Prince songs from his early years and there isn't really a particularly weak track on the whole thing. It's an excellent debut really.

Love it. Used to assume it was wank because musos said it was and was the last Prince album i bought because of that. But listening to it, it's a really good album.
