What song is the weakest in your opinion? For me it is the man in your life song, it's just not jivin with me. I absolutely love every other song on the album though. I think there are potentially some very strong hits on this one, assuming everything comes together, which it just may this time. Shapin up to be a very positive year for P. biggrin

Personally I think If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life is one of the strongest songs on the album. I would pick that as the next single. It's catchy and funky and would work perfectly on radio. Dear Mr Man is less suitable as a single but is possibly the best track on the album in general.

Co-Sign wink I love If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life and Marrying Kind. I pretty much dig the whole album. The song that I love the least is probably "On The Couch" great song, just not my personal fav.

All wrong answers!

There are NO weak tracks on Musicology, the whole album ROCKS HARD!

At first I didn't like Dear Mr. Man because it didn't have any scratching or funky elements (like synthosizers or cool computer drums) and plus it hurt my head because Prince says we want to say 3 words but he really says 4 words, but then somebody told me that is how black people talk. Now I like Dear Mr. Man, it's pretty deep and politicol.

This new album is SO good, who's feeling me?

Dude are you for real? You need to jump back on the Mothership Connection and take your ass back to your home planet. "Funky elements (like synthesizers or cool computer drums)" WTF? I'm not trying to be patronizing or anything but here are some records that might do your body good:
Cloud Nine -Temptations
What's Going On - M. Gaye
Superfly - C. Mayfield
There's a Riot Going On - Sly and the Family Stone
One Nation Under a Groove and Maggot Brain - Funkadelic

Yeah, those people are quite funky but not like this! MUSICOLOGY!

This is a whole another level of funkiness. I remember my friend one time played for me this album with a guy playing piano with a robot head on with lots of black guys around him. That was very bad music and I just had to put Emancipation on to get it out of my head, plus some funky Kool and the Gang, that's some real old skool funk!

Aight man, I will keep it chill. The way you so haphazardly and naively talk about black folks is a little jarring to us politically corrected folks in USA. But hey man that's cool. What you got on your sleeve the next man has in his pocket. But seriously write that list down, listen to those records, and maybe, just maybe, you will understand the expression "feeling it."

I feel it. Don't u worry about that. I didn't mean to put black people down, I only meant that they were in the background behind a guy with a robot head, holding instruments, not running fast or anything.

What do u mean about on my sleeve? I didn't get a sleeve with mine, I downloaded it from the club.

I repent. "Adders and serpents let me breathe awhile."

Apologies.

I'm not a racist. Hopefully no offense has been taken. If there has, I'm truly sorry.

Didn't mean to exasperate u. It gets that way sometimes huh? Sometimes people have such hugely different music tastes to your own that it becomes hard not to be aloof, so off kilter appears their musical "taste".

Name checks were all in order.

I'll add some tracks:

Shaky Ground.

Chameleon.

Sly.

Superstition.

Do Yourself A Favor.

Is That Enough?

Maybe Your Baby.

I weep for people who haven't heard these tracks. Frustrating.

I'll be the only one who cant stand Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance.... Cinnimon Girl is right up there with it too... the rest of the album is cool. A bit uninspired but still good.

Oh yeah, I got so caught up explaing why LOTP is slammin' that I forgot to mention which tracks are the weakest for me. I would have to say A Million Years and Cinnamon Girl are a toss-up right now. They are both too tame, conventional and pop for me.

I tend to favor P tracks that are seriously funkin', rockin' or quirky (read creative and innovative). That's why I definitely prefer TRC to Musicology. My other favorite P albums are 1999, Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy, the Black Album, Symbol and TGE. I don't include Crystal Ball, but that is outstanding as well. These are all rich in the factors I mentioned. Musicology belongs in a different tier of albums which would include D&P, ATWIAD, Emancipation, Batman and Rave. It is much more mainstream pop (commercial and tame) sounding. I place Purple Rain in its own unique tier, whicle Prince, For You, Dirty Mind and Controversy would be in one together as the formulative years. Also, Grafitti Bridge gets its own tier because it was more like a compilation.

So, in sum, Musicology may do well for P, but he is capable of bringing so much more!

Peace,
Scott

It blows my everlovin' mind that some o' y'all are dissin' On The Couch - that right there is the best piece of ear candy he's given me since back in the day!

I guess my least fav would be ... well, up until yesterday I would say Cinnamon Girl, but then I listened to that one in the car going to the grocery store yesterday at sunset and I was diggin' on it.

I never listen to Reflection...it's weird that it didn't bother me so much with the mp3, and maybe it's after seeing him and Wendy performing, but goshDURNit that TICK!!! TOCK!!! TICK!!! TOCK!!! gets on my last noive. wink

That was like my favorite song of last year, so maybe I'm just sick of it...but turn down the TICK!!! TOCK!!! and I'd love to listen to it some more...it's like once I really heard the cowbell in Endorphin Machine...it's never the same again. wink

LOTP, great in concert, fun energetic... BOARING on the CD. I have begun skipping it. Not to say it does not have a few good moments...but not enough.

I have to say that the album is not wearing well with me. Funny, Musicology, the song, will not leave my head. It just keeps getting better and better. Cinnamon girl, an early Fav is loosing luster. So is Dr. Mr. Man. ICPC is a fav of non-prince peeps that I have had listern... As we internalize this thing it will change probably 2 or 3 times to us by the time we individually get it.

But the standout for me, righ now, is Musicology and my least fave is Life O the Party. The humor is not lost on me that Life of the Party, to me, is a buzzkill. Can you imagine trying to throw that in at a party...it makes a good smoke-break.

But the album is still an infant. It will grow.

How can you be the "Life O' The Party", when I won't even play ya
at my party??? This is EASILY the weakest jam on the CD...

Having said THAT, it still bangs HARD live....only Prince...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Look, I don't mind the song, but Life O the Party is the weakest, although it's great live. I think he should have recorded this one with a live band and it would have been the cut he intended it to be.

I hate it as well...you know what the song reminds me of, especially the part where Candy sings-- Vanity 6's Nasty Girl!! Except NG was a better song in it's time...LOTP just sounds too dated and forced to me!!

I love this album, but the lyrics are kinda weak, which makes upf 4 more than half of the reason I hate these 2 tracks: Call My Name, and A Million Days...Either Prince wanted 2 play it safe, or he's 4gotten how 2 write good ballads/love songs (can U get any lamer than 'i just can't stop writing songs about U, I love U so much' what kind of lame lyrics are those?...I'd expect that from R.Kelly, not Prince). He needs 2 check the new single by Musiq, "WhoKnows" 4 inspiration. Prince's influence is all over that song.
